AI vehicles driving over friendlies

So i made this mission where a lot of soldiers and vehicles is patrolling Chernogorsk. After a little while like half of the soldiers get driven over by the vehicles which is pretty annoying, any way to prevent that? (without removing the soldiers/vehicles :p )

Trying changing the soldiers to use safe and staggered or column formation so they walk on the sides of the road. The AI can't drive very well.. that's just way it is right now.

I'm not using waypoints but UPS so can't set their formation. Hopefully BIS will fix/improve the AI in future :)
