codea 10 Posted September 21, 2009 (edited) After installing arma 2 on the day of release and trying the game I thought best just to leave it until some patches appeared same as ofp and arma. After trying all the beta patches and a lot of the tweaks found on the forums my game still ran bad like 10 - 20 fps. Then i tried installing the 1.04 patch still no difference.I read about adding maxmem to my arma2 shortcut a lot of people said it made a difference a lot said it did not. My shortcut looks like this "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\arma2.exe" -nosplash maxmem=4000 -mod=@Proper Now my game runs between 35 and 40 odd fps -mod@proper is low vegitation addon. 9800gt 1gig 4 gig ddr2 2.13 dual core xfi extreme 1680x1050 Vista 32 and 190.38 driver All settings on normal video memory on default aa 2 no anistropic 2000 view distance. Now everytime i start the game it kicks into a black screen so i need to make new shortcut everytime i want to start the game up? Alex72 1 Posted September 21, 2009 Maxmem is wrong. Max is 2047. I dont think it matters as its probably just take it down to that anyway, but just so you know. Maybe also test video memory set to HIGH. Just test and see. Even change and restart the game. Maybe not needed, but to be sure. About the black screen... No idea mate. Hope someone else has a solution for you. Alex
codea 10 Posted September 21, 2009 Game runs way smoother on maxmem 4000 for me though Someone said that would use the 4 gig ram better.
AndresCL 10 Posted September 21, 2009 Maybe a screenshot of your graphics settings would help
Deadfast 43 Posted September 21, 2009 You're missing a dash in front of the maxmem command (-maxmem=2048). And the maximum for the command really is 2048, anything beyond will be either ignored or set to 2048 (not sure about this). If you say it runs better for you with the same exact shortcut you posted then I'm afraid it's a placebo effect (thanks to that missing dash the command isn't enabled) :)
Bulldogs 10 Posted September 21, 2009 Not sure about the black screen but the fact that you're getting at least 25 fps with such a slow CPU is amazing. As for the black screen, try deleting your arma2.cfg file and starting Arma 2 without any mods to see if you still get the black screen.
codea 10 Posted September 21, 2009 Sorry its -maxmem=4000 ---------- Post added at 12:47 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:44 AM ---------- Not sure about the black screen but the fact that you're getting at least 25 fps with such a slow CPU is amazing. As for the black screen, try deleting your arma2.cfg file and starting Arma 2 without any mods to see if you still get the black screen. I got rid of that happening by removing nosplash as i said i have all settings on normal 2000 view distance my 9800gt is an oc one from gigabyte so maybe that would help it a bit. Bulldogs 10 Posted September 22, 2009 Yeah, just testing it myself. With -nosplash it has a black screen for a while but eventually loads (basically everything loading without a splash screen to keep you distracted) The point they're noting with the -maxmem=2048 is that Arma 2 can't use more than 2048mb of memory. So if you put -maxmem=4000 then it's still going to be the same as putting in -maxmem=2048, so it doesn't really matter anywhich way.
