mouse lag possible fix!

Recommended Posts

I am not 100% sure this will work for everyone, but I am pretty sure it will help the majority.

I haven't been on here in a while but it seems everyone is looking at tweaking graphics settings to fix this problem. But I think I have found our answer.

I believe the problem is in fact sound related, and there is an easy way for people to test this theory.

Part of the windows audio engine is prone to memory leaks, and it would seem that this memory leak only takes effect on certain enhancements. I found this when i my memory usage was very high with nothing running. After looking at the processes (you will have to 'show processes from all users') I saw that audiodg.exe was taking up a whopping 1.6GB!

This problem seems more prevalent in creative cards. But it seems that the current fix is to go into your properties for your main output in your playback devices and go to advanced and disable any enhancements. This means that your sound will be lacking a little in game, and you will not be able to enable EAX. But it will no longer eat up the memory.

It fixed the problem for me and I can now play the game!

Please post your findings.

It's a good point to note that Arma 2 doesn't actually support any sound enhancements that I can think of (CMSS, EAX). Having EAX enabled hasn't caused any issues for me, but having CMSS or Crystalizer enabled causes sound problems (mixed directional sound) but that's due to Arma using a software sound engine that doesn't support these sound effects.

Why did they go for a horrible software based engine? They only have integrated cards themselves?

It's actually a very good software engine, and allows good compatibilty across many different hardware configs, but it has it's downsides, performance being one of them.
