Don Dawson 0 Posted March 24, 2002 Hello folkes, Help. Crikey! Hear is the situation, Bloody Hell!! My system has the following, an AMD K7 (i.e., Pentium III equivalent) ~800 MHz Thunderbird CPU, ASUS A&V Socket A AMD 133 Motherboard 75 GB Hard Drive, 640 MB RAM, 19"/18.0" PF790 ViewSonic Flatron Monitor, ATI All-in-Wonder 32 MB Video Card, Creative EAX Sound Blaster Live Platinum Sound Card The Drivers are NOT an issue as originally Operation Flashpoint (OFP) v1.20, v1.30, and v1.40 ALL started up, played, and closed down CRASH FREE. (as well, I read that upgrading the Motherboard Drivers can be bleeding dangerous, bloody hell!. I bought my original OFP v1.2 here in Canada (the store told me it was the UK version, anyways the v1.20, and the upgrades off the internet v1.30, and v1.40 ALL ran fine eh). Now then I buy and install the US version of the Gold Upgrade: Red Hammer Campaign. Crikey!! All hell broke loose!! (i) the Gold Upgrade, crashed randomly (but incessantly!, and downgraded my v1.40 back down to a v1.30!! (ii) I can NOT seem to download and then UNZIP successfully (I get a non-descript 'corruption' error, what the.....!#?%!#! ANY MORE OFP patches. Not v1.42, not v1.46, nope, nine, kaput! So I reinstall OFP v1.40 after my Gold Upgrade is installed. Bloddy Hell!! Now, the game plays SUPER SLOW, and CRASHES upon shutdown (it locks my screen into a bizarre random colour pattern, like some took a sledge hammer to it eh!!. So sod it. Out comes the Gold Upgrade, into the rubbish bin for you! So uninstall EVERYTHING, and reinstall OFP v1.20. It plays slow and crashes upon shutdown (lock the sledgehammer colour pattern!, I then install the v1.30 Patch, and yahvol, kaput! Then I install the v1.40, the same thing, plays slow, and crashes upon shutdown. BEFORE THE GOLD UPGRADE, OFP v1.40 WORKED FINE!! Now, kaput. As well, I CAN'T UNZIP Patches v1.42, and v1.46 without some bleeding "corruption" error. I anyone has ANY advice on ANY of the above problems, I'd really appreciate to hear any possible solutions. I love(d) OFP, but man, all I can say now is that I've bought MEDAL OF HONOUR: ALLIED ASSAULT and I play it ALL the time now (Crikey, I works eh). I have gone from a die-hard OFP fan, to just wanting my money back (how well, eh, fat chance in hell eh!. Anyways, Take care folkes, and I hope your OFP works, it is actually a really great game, but Codemasters and Bohemia Interactive Studios (beware the "Ides-of-March"), lookout for MEDAL OF HONOUR: ALLIED ASSAULT, it may be outshining your sales pretty soon man. Deus Ex 0 Posted March 25, 2002 when you uninstalled OFP did you delete the rest of the directory after you initialy uninstalled it?
Deus Ex 0 Posted March 25, 2002 oh yea i also recommend when you do uninstall OFP and delete the directory to dispose of it from the recycle bin and do a defrag, THEN reinstall it. It should playe Fine. When installing, install OFP, then gold upgrade, then v1.
Don Dawson 0 Posted March 26, 2002 Hello, Thnaks for the replies, however I have done that already. I uninstalled everything, (directoires, files shortcuts, the whole blood lot eh) and emptied the recycle bin. Dumped, wiped, nuked, kaput Yahvowl! When I reinstalled my OFP v1.20, v1.30, and v1.40, ALL PLAY VERY SLOWLY, AND CRASHED UPON SHUTDOWN, KAA-BOOM, YAA!! Now, I CAN NOT successfully UNZIP OFP Upgrades v1.42, and v1.46. Crikey!! Something is not kosher man. I CANT UNZIP new OFP versions (WinZip 'corruption' error!?!!. Has anyone else had this problem?????? Basically, OFP had been reduced to a useless WASTE OF HARD DRIVE SPACE!! Help please. Don Dawson Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Placebo 29 Posted March 26, 2002 Sounds like your download got corrupted, tried using a download manager such as getright or gozilla?
Don Dawson 0 Posted March 26, 2002 Hello, Thank you for the suggestion of using a download messager like getright or godzilla. I'll look into that. I was just wondering though, Why would WinZip get corrupted? It is "the-standard" download program for IBM compatible PCs PLANETWIDE. Before at the UK (I didn't try the US site, as the store told me that I had a UK version) website of Codemasters, I downloaded the Bohemian Interactive Studios' OFP v1.30, and v1.40 with WINZIP. They downloaded and UNZIPPED WITHOUT ANY 'CORRUPTION' ERROR and it ran right-as-rain. Is there something possibly wrong with the Codemasters and OFPN Homepage downloads??? It is possible that their website SERVER SETTINGS are buggering up the WinZip files? I don't know. I was just wondering IF that was possible. I download lots of stuff from Star Trek websites, and the Medal of Honour: Allied Assault website, without enven a bees-knee of a problem. Hmmm,..... something's afoot here me-thinks. Anyways, thank you for the reply, Don Dawson Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
Placebo 29 Posted March 26, 2002 I don't believe winzip itself got corrupted, what most likely happened is that the zip file you downloaded got corrupted during the transfer, that can quite easily happen, especially if you don't use a download manager.... There are some hardware issues that can cause corrupted downloads but they tend to be restricted to Via chipset motherboards....
Don Dawson 0 Posted March 26, 2002 Hello, Thanks alot for the info. Hmmm,.... file transfer problem eh. Could be, could be,.... food-for-thought. However, my Hardware and Drivers can NOT be the issue I believe, as before the US Gold Upgrade fiasco (which I has since nuked, and effectively thrown in the rubbish bin, Crikey! $ 24.00 CDN, i.e., 10 pounds up in smoke !?"&$%6!#!!!, the downloads from Codemasters UK website (i.e., v1.30, and v1.40) were all fine. Bloody Hell. I just don't know why all of a sudden THIS OFP Codemasters website and the OFPN homepage would be such a bugger in this department. Before the file transfer process was fine, now, dead, useless, Kaput!! Something just doesn't add up here. I'm no computer expert by any means, but OFP downloads BUGGER UP!! I HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM anywhere else? I just seems to point to something is WRONG at the CODEMASTERS and OFPN WEBSITE downloads eh. Anyways, again thanks alot form the replies and they ARE MUCH appreciated. I don't usually point figures (I usually assume its me, "...dooh,..."). However, this time it just really seems to point to the Codemasters and OFPN websites. "... if it walks like a duck, and it kwacks like a duck, then,...." Oh yaa, they (i.e., OFP) say that there is NO Problem with the original European (i.e., UK English) versions of the CD retail versions of OFP v1.20 and the Gold Upgrade. Right. Well, the Forum states that there is "some unexplained problem" (Blood Hell!!, there goes 10 pounds eh) with the North American (i.e, US English) version of the Gold upgrade. Well, here somethings afoot here again. Codemasters and BIS had best sauce-this-out, eh. BEWARE, MEDAL OF HONOUR:ALLIED ASSAULT. Crikey it works eh. Anyways, thanks for giving helpful suggestions, Don Dawson Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
