Aphotic 10 Posted August 28, 2009 I would like to see a mods section added to the menu that searches for folders in the Addons folder and allows you to enable/disable them using a simple in game interface rather than having to manually add them to the command line or dumping them all in the folder and then not being able to turn them off. I wouldn't mind if enabling/disabling required the game to be restarted. This would make mods much more main stream, the forum is great but if BI could push mod take up it would benefit the game greatly in the long run. Perhaps something like this could be implemented with Operation Arrowhead ---------- Post added at 12:15 AM ---------- Previous post was Yesterday at 11:31 PM ---------- Hell... or I could use this http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=76669
Inkompetent 0 Posted August 28, 2009 This will require quite some changes to the engine, because the game loads all addons into memory when you start it. I can however agree that an official launcher tool for easy mod management would be appreciated. Far, far, far less work than reworking the game, and still something that *should* come with the game when one buy it, considering how important addons are for this series :)
LeadCommando65 10 Posted August 28, 2009 I wouldn't mind if enabling/disabling required the game to be restarted. So, where's the problem with the system like it's now? Create the shortcuts you need once a time is the only additional work you have to do right now. If you don't mind closing and restarting your game, you get little by such an update you suggest. It wouldn't make a difference. At least there are / will be tools that can do that.
frederf 0 Posted August 28, 2009 Because the game could do it for you. You could try to join a MP game and the game exe could detect what mods are running, compile a list, and prompt you (Restart game to load require files?). You'd click "Yes" and fold your hands in your lap while the game restart with the required mods and then auto-connected you to the server.
mlenser 10 Posted August 29, 2009 (edited) I was given a link to Alpinestars - Arma II Launcher in another thread which even allows the use of the beta builds with mods. I do agree that if this was supported by ARMA II directly it would keep the community/game going longer. Edited August 29, 2009 by mlenser
