SpaceNavigator detected in 1.3, but cant configure it

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Just noticed that my spaceNavigator is showing up as a controller in Arma2 1.3 *and* that Arma 2 is detecting all 6 axes (for those that dont know, a SpaceNavigator is a yoke that supports move around x-y-z as well as rotate around x-y-z, making its available degrees of movement similar to a track-ir)... but Im having trouble actually binding to the six axes. Has anyone managed it and got the associated config file to hand?

NB - The fact that Arma 2 is detecting a spaceNavigator at all implies that arma2 is meant to work with it (a spaceNavigator is not a standard directX input device, so the application has to be specifically looking out for a spaceNavigator for it to actually be detected at all).

Thanks

Sham B

Hi there,

I have discovered this too (but only now, two years later).

It is possible to assign the axes to certain actions, but it doesn't behave as expected.

For example:

If you assign the forward-axis to forward movement (e.g. for a vehicle), as soon as you push the controller forwards, it goes into full speed and doesn't stop until you crank it backwards again, where it goes into full backwards speed.

I would _love_ to pan and zoom over the map with my SpaceNavigator. This function doesn't seem to be implemented, though.

Aside from that, I could imagine a "seamless" motion-control, to sneak around corners, a vehicle control or whatever you can think of regarding some kind of analog control, that makes sense.

It is true, that the SpaceNavigator has to be actively searched for by the application, to be detected and I was surprised and astounded to find it supported.

Sadly its of no use (yet?).

If anyone has updates, hints and tips on this subject, please let me know!

*UPDATE*

I contacted the BI-Tech-Support directly and received the following answer:

Hello,

as I know controller support was not intended (since it wasn't tested

during development).

Only thing that comes into my mind is to try to use windows settings and

see what the result would be, but unfortunately I am not familiar with

controller myself,

Unfortunately I was not able to improve the behavior of the SpaceNavigator via its Software. With ~2 people supporting the product being implemented, it won't happen in the future.

Thank you a lot Liquidpinky!

This beta-driver seems to work so far.

Now it can be used as a:

1. 2D Mouse

2. 3D Mouse

3. Joystick or

4. Keyboard

The Senisitivity Settings behave a little different and the default buttons do other stuff, but that can be reassigned with macros, when i need it. Have to fiddle around a little.

Using it as a Throttle for my Joystick and as a steering wheel works so far, although I really have to adjust the sensitivity.
