CrazyAviator 10 Posted August 5, 2009 Has anyone else noticed the AI is doing weird things when under attack or "startled". By weird, I mean not the normal drone AI I've seen in the past. For example, tonight we ran across an enemy BMP near a seemingly unoccupied town. We were in a LAV 25 and had the advantage of surprise. We emerged from behind a house, attacked their flank and they started to move real quick (from right to left) I manuvered the LAV behind to their 7 oclock position. We kept hitting them with the LAV's main gun and the BMP looked like it was trying to turn and then stopped... then like 6 guys disembarked. They all tried to scatter and about 2 of them tried to lay down a base of fire with PKM's. Of course it was futile against the LAV and we blew them to pieces. HOW COOL! I had Cooper get into their (now deserted) BMP and inspect the damage. It was driveable but the right side was red and the turning was all fkd up. I'm guessing we hit their right track and messed it up enough that the AI panicked and tried to run. http://screenshot.xfire.com/screenshot/natural/0838bb631c3c624737e4cf9cd12ab6b34c9188b9.png
nomdeplume 0 Posted August 5, 2009 Yes the AI abandons vehicles that are not drivable, and I think also if the turret is damaged so it can't be turned they abandon it as well. It's not ideal behaviour really since in many situations it's better to remain in the vehicle than get out and be shot to pieces (at the very least, drivable but damaged vehicles should be driven to a safe area before they bail out). So although it did give you a fun engagement, that particular behaviour is actually entirely predictable and dronelike. :) Worse still, if they're under your command they'll refuse to board the damaged vehicle if you tell them to. I had this happen a day or two ago when tooling around with a T-72; we took enough damage that our mobility was impaired and the driver and gunner hopped out in the middle of the battle. Also when they do bail out, they don't seem to try to put any distance between themselves and the vehicle. It'd bug me much less if they legged it away from it, as if they were worried it was going to explode (which often is the case when they're jumping out, and presumably why they're coded to do that). It's kind of pointless at the moment because they all jump out and then usually mill around right next to it so when it does explode they all get killed, anyway. cossack8559 10 Posted August 5, 2009 AI now doesen't disembark when the turret is broken... tested yesterday!Best regards I had my turret disabled on my T-90 and my crew bailed on me... also when i destroyed the turret of an enemy tank the crew bailed... tested this morning  I don't mind it when they bail... i just wish they would get the heck away from the tank before it explodes and kills them all.
