darcy 10 Posted July 30, 2009 Hey all, First post, please don't eat me. I've done a search here and all over the t'interwebz but can't find a solution. Basically, when i click to open ArmA 2 my computer freezes. No errors, no beeping, no evil laughter coming from inside the computer - nothing. This happens every time. I was playing ArmA 1 on this computer for a while but I got the same problem as of the other day, which leads me to think it's possible a setting on the computer I've changed. What that might be (if it is), I have no idea. I got ArmA 2 today. I'm running: Intel Core Duo @ 3.2Ghz 4gb RAM 1Gb ATI Radeon HD 4870 Vista 64-bit. Please help! Darce p.s. Total computer biff, please use the same language you would use for a 5 year old.
no use for a name 0 Posted July 30, 2009 (edited) can you run other games? or do you have random crashes with Vista or programs you try to run? Could be a driver issue; but almost sounds like an OS or hard drive issue. Run scandisk: click start, click on computer, then right-click on your hard drive in the left window, select properties, select the tools tab, and on top click the "check now" under error checking. Check both boxes, and start. It may need to reboot your pc and run at startup. let us know if it finds any bad sectors Edited July 30, 2009 by No Use For A Name
darcy 10 Posted July 30, 2009 Well, it's run all the way through and nothing appeared to come up. Bugger. Any other ideas?
ViperNL 10 Posted July 30, 2009 Have you installed the latest driver for your videocard? http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista64/common-vista64
darcy 10 Posted July 30, 2009 I have to admit that I haven't, as the computer is new and doesn't have wireless like my laptop/old PC. But surely it should load and not freeze every time I try to start it? Plus as I mentioned ArmA 1 was working the other day and then started the same problems as I'm having with ArmA 2. Therefore, there has to be something that can be resolved (says the person who has no idea about computers). Cheers though. Darce
ViperNL 10 Posted July 30, 2009 Well it depends on how old the driver you currently have installed is. I strongly suggest you update it!
darcy 10 Posted July 30, 2009 Will do. Thanks bro. Any other takes?
darcy 10 Posted July 31, 2009 Just thought I'd let you know, I resolved the problem by re-installing Vista (deleting whatever change I had made to screw things up). ArmA 2 is now running beautifully. Thanks for the help!
