ARMA2 Autorun.exe Issue

Recommended Posts

Hi there

When I load the DVD into my drive I get a message along the lines that the AMRA Autoexe has ecountered a problem and has closed.

Usual comments re sending a report to Microsoft.

The only way I could install the game was to explore the DVD and click the setup.exe.

Game installed ok and I have installed the 1.02 patch plus the March DirectX update.

However the problem still is there. When I insert the DVD into my drive I get the same message re ARMA Autorun.exe.

Only way to load the game is to click the desktop icon.

Not a big deal I guess, but wondering if anyone else has experienced this and is there a solution.

cheers

Have you already got the game installed? Does it run? If so I'd suggest disabling autorun. (I hate it personally and ALWAYS disable it after a fresh Windows install)

Yes I have

Excuse my ignorance but how do you disable Autorun ?

Just curious but how will that help my situation ??

You want to run the game from the desktop icon for running the latest patch. The dvd is only needed to confirm you have a copy of the game.

Autorun option is in the dvd player options. (right click/properties).

Edit= your issue could be as simple as the center hole of the dvd isn't large enough to seat properly in the drive in older players.

That kinda makes sense.

I might uninstall the game and start again.

Only problem is that when I initially installed the game I received the "Autorun.exe has encountered a problem" message and searched the DVD for the setup.exe file.

Is that the correct way to manually install i.e. clicking on the setup.exe icon from the DVD ??

When you say " You want to run the game from the desktop icon for running the latest patch" what do you mean by that ?

I assume I still have to insert the game DVD into the optical drive, but just ignore the autorun.exe message and use the desktop icon ?

cheers

Since the Autorun doesn't work for you, then yes, manually pick setup.exe from the dvd.

If you try to play the game from the dvd after you patch it, the dvd is only going to launch it's version, ie.. 1.01. In which I don't believe that works anyhow after the game has been patch to version 1.02. Only the desktop icon will launch 1.02.

If you do not want to disable autorun, just be prepared to close the window everytime you put the dvd in.
