Can someone upload a CQB video to youtube?

Recommended Posts

It be cool to see a battle with house to house fighting if theres a village/town on the island in the game.

I like to do very CQB in OFP and im building a new comp within the next 2 months so i cant play Arma 2 yet. All the videos ive seen are very far encounters. I want to see how battles are in this game CLOSE UP. I want to see how the AI reacts and just how it "feels" ya know?

So basically if you can have a squad or 2 or more if ur feeling adventurous..lmao of the West moving through a little village/town filled with enemy infantry. Preferably raining/cloudy make the day look gloomy and dreary kind of like that part in Saving Private Ryan when Vin deisel gets shot.

Download the demo and check it out for yourself. Or, you can check out the BIS editor tutorial, it kinda shows how Ai react.

As far as that video, when the Ai are given a hold waypoint or similar it's true that they dont move around, find cover, and flank. Funny subs though :D

They actually had no waypoints of any kind, they were free to think for themselves and they stood there like lemons...

Try it yourself :)

When I first downloaded the demo I tried a little test. I put a bunch of objects in between two side and let them fight. It was disappointing to see the units try and shoot through the objects, which mostly consisted of vehicles - both drivable and "wreck objects".

Though, just now, I tried something similar, except this time using a pattern of cargo containers:

I haven't tested it much, but I'm surprised to see the the units actually took cover and leaned over the sides, something that seems to conflict with my last test.

My theory? Maybe the units were still visible through the bottom of the cars and the windshields, so the AI opened fire. Instead of shooting their at the enemies feet, though, they shot at the their body, which were behind the vehicles.

More testing is needed though.

Anyways, the reason I posted this here is because the topic creator might appropriate this kind of CQB for the video. I don't have time to make one, but if anyone wants to check this out and maybe put it on Youtube then it could be cool.

I don't remember how I had it set up exactly. It was a very long time ago.

For a very long time, though, I was under the impression that the AI would ignore objects set in the editor. This cargo container test proves, however, that they act no different with objects, regardless if it was placed in the editor or default on the map.

The vehicles were very random though. I mean, I put a few in the center and noticed that the AI wouldn't take cover. Disappointed, I copy and pasted the vehicles about fifty times to see what would happen. I already posted the results though.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I set the whole vehicle test outside the map borders? Does the AI perform differently if they're in the random terrain?

This is all in the demo by the way.

EDIT: If someone wants to redo the cargo container test and post it on Youtube in HQ, it could be a good defense for people who believe the AI is bad...

Check this out. Assuming the Arma2 editor is anything like the OFP one, do the same test with the vehicles in a urban enviroment.

Place scattered vehicles all over the road inbetween a squad of West and East.

Give East a Search and Destroy Waypoint all the way behind where West starts as if there trying to score a touchdown almost.

Give West a waypoint to Guard where the first vehicles begin.

See what happens as im curious also. Lets see if East moves in through the vehicles and takes cover or just goes around, or does nothing at all.

Also make sure u set the parameters inside the waypoints also. Give East a formation and combat stance. Full speed blah blah blah. Fire at will.

Actually give them a Line or V formation, lets see what happens.
