L3dZ3P 0 Posted July 29, 2009 Hi guys Due to a guys post on these forums ref setting fan speeds to 100% with nvidia system tools , I was for the first time last night able to play for 3 straight hours ( and disconnected of my own free will) This is a first for me....previously I usually managed about 15 mins before I started to see graphical annomalies and then CTD.... then it was 3 hours on the troubleshooting forums :j: So seems like a lot of my problems have been caused by an inactive fan. When I installed nvidia system tools and set fan speed to 100% it sounded like a chopper taking off...a completelly new sound to me and made my pc mucho loud:) My fan has not been running at all and so the GPU has been overheating forcing the CTD. I have now reached a stable compromise at 60 % fan, it's not as noisy and Arma2 still likes me....but what I have now noticed is that when I restart my pc....no GPU fan activity untill I go into nvidia tools and set it again. So a question I now have is this ... Is this necessary everytime, or can I somehow make it stay running at 60% all the time? Wish I could find that thread about the fans etc to thank the Op for the fix;) Thanks for the help guys.
ICE-Raver 10 Posted July 29, 2009 (edited) I use riva tuner. I have mine set to automatically run my GPU fan at 100%. It does it as soon as windows starts up. You can set it however you like. And talk about a jet engine. I run all my fans 100%. I have 2 120mm case fans running 140cfm, 2 120mm case fans @ 60 CFM, & 1CPU cooler fan @ 110 CFM. Plus my GPU fan at 100% (don't know the cfm on it) I can almost blow the sides off my case when they start spinning. LOL If you want to set your case/cpu fans go into your bios/power settings/ and turn fan control to manual. Turn them up to 100%. It's louder, but if heat is an issue max them babies out. tankkiller01 0 Posted July 29, 2009 Cool, goot to hear that you have your pc running at a stabe state. I have my gtx 285 fan running @ 90 precent most of the time. Anyway back to your question, i dont know how to change it to keep it changed in system tools, however i know of a handy tool called rivatuner .. http://www.guru3d.com/index.php?page=rivatuner With this you can change the speeds and even create profiles to save, this will set the fan speed auto when windows boots. ____________________ Intel core 2 Quad Q9550 @ 3.1Ghz BFG Tech GTX 285 OC to core 674MHz. shader 1535MHz. mem 1247MHz Asus P5N-D 750i 4 GB Corsair DDR2 XMS 800 EZ COOL 700W psu Maxtor HDD Windows Vista 64bit

no use for a name 0 Posted July 29, 2009 Yeah it sucks most vid cards come with a crappy stock cooler. Usually if I order a new card I also buy an aftermarket cooler (if ones available) at the same time and replace it first thing. It's amazing when you take the old one off how messy and half-assed some are
