KaziQTR 10 Posted July 25, 2009 Hi there, I've made a small research about multiplayer demand of ArmA 2. I see the AI and playing single player mode is way too entertaining for players. And unlike the other single player games, you do not have the same thing over and over again. I've been playing games (not real professional) since delta force on different clans, and as everybody knows that once you get used to play multiplayer games, you just don't feel the same when you play with the AI. Several Questions: I wonder how the new population (since it's a new game lots of new folks) of ArmA 2 is obeying to the concept of the game. Even though if the majority is not playing seriously, am i going to be able to find serious players (like 100 players on same server)? ArmA 1 may be old and ArmA 2 brings new features but which one do you prefer to play with populated serious players? Thanks for answers.
galzohar 31 Posted July 25, 2009 Most I've seen is like 80-90? As far as I understand the dedicated server is still a beta version which causes stability issues with a lot of players and especially players joining mid-game. Hopefully it'll get fixed soon enough and we'll see even bigger servers. At the end there's no (visible) hard-cap in the game on how many players can be on a server, so it's fully up to the bandwidth and machine of the server, and the mission design. randir14 10 Posted July 26, 2009 I think it depends where you live. In the U.S. I usually only see two low-ping servers with a lot of people. All the other servers are either empty or have high pings (probably from Europe).
KaziQTR 10 Posted July 26, 2009 Hi, Thanks for the info guys. If you were to compare can you tell me which one is more crowded right now? Thanks
bhaz 0 Posted July 26, 2009 Alot of the serious groups out there play on private servers, some of which aren't even listed (you can opt servers out of the public list). To get a public server with 100 people? I've seen it happen, but I'd hate to be the admin.
walker 0 Posted July 26, 2009 Hi all There are a few public servers in the 50 to 120 player range. Most public servers are in the 30 player range. There are many small clan servers in the 20 player range. Some of these can be very good. There is a 40% 60% split between PvP and Coop on public servers. Berzerk is a primary public PvP game form at the moment but there are usually 3 or so CTF missions running at any time. There is an experimental public PvP game form running a 120 player server. At normal game play times evenings in Europe and the US the bigger servers are hard to get onto as they are usually full, this applies right down to the better 30 player public clan recruiting servers. Most of the large servers are private clan servers, but many of the clans run a public recruiting server. Many Like GOL, Kelly's And Tactical gamer etc are admined so they are better run. They use the public servers to teach people their clan ethos, recruit from, and to populate ban lists by gathering evidence of TK, Griefing and Cheating. Some have started running training days that help New Guys to play better. There are always a few clans that are recruiting, most just ask that you play sensibly as a team player. Other clans are very selective. They include selection processes and often require personal nomination from a clan member to play on. All Use Team Speak or Ventrillo or VOIP. Others require XFire membership. Clan servers are the best place to play they have many more missions and very good game play. Many mission makers and MOD teams are attached to particular clans so they have people in the clans that beta test their work for them. This means clans get access to mods and missions before everyone else. Kind Regards walker
KaziQTR 10 Posted July 27, 2009 (edited) Hi, Thanks for info walker. So is there anyway to browse those multiplayer servers on an internet navigator to have an idea about population? http://arma2.swec.se/server/list is the answer (I've found it after asking) And so far what I've understood is there is no official server provided and supported by Bohemia Interactive if I'm not wrong. All the game servers are provided either by clans or gaming communities (?). Thanks again. Now I and hopefully other players have some ideas about Multi of ArmA 2 Edited July 27, 2009 by KaziQTR
galzohar 31 Posted July 27, 2009 No official servers that I know of. The official missions also don't really get played anywhere.
