Aiight 0 Posted March 15, 2002 I was wondering if anyone knows where a certain 3DSMax tutorial is. It teaches you how to import a a cropped photo from photoshop and automatically generate a model. I have a feeling gmax has this feature, and it would be very helpful to know how to do that. Thanks
M-N-0N 0 Posted March 16, 2002 errr i dont think so ... and if it could do that whats the point of modelling? ya can realy say "look what i made .... only took 2 mins" lol yeah right if you could do that in max you could not call yaself a modeller tho there is a aw way to import pics into the BG of the view ports so you can trace it to make the proportions right.... and there is a scanner type thing that can scan an image and produce a high quality object of what you scanned ... but it costs heaps and i would amagine it would be used alot for movies and that.... tho i have not seen how this scanner thing works but i know i have heard it been talked about... sgt bastard 0 Posted March 16, 2002 I have also heard of a program that you can use for your home scanner. It recognize the outer lines of the blueprints/drawings you scan. Then you can import them in diffrent 3D-program by using extrude-intersect. And there you have it. The basics of the model. But you have to do many things on your own later to do it more detailed. Konyak-2 0 Posted March 16, 2002 Actually, I think I know what Aiight is talking about. There was a feature that made it possible to make models from photos. I never saw it for 3D studio, but I remember trying a program that did that from a cover disk for some 3D mag once. Aiight made it sound a little simpler, but basically, you needed at least 2 photos of the same scene, and then in each photo, you clicked a vertex on each corner of the shape in the photo, and had the program interpolate the information, and voila, you had a textured 3d model ready to pan around and render. BUT, this was meant for scenes like houses and that sort of thing, very simple models. Of course as Minion points out, and most if not all modelers use, is to put a three view of the model in the ortho views and do the same thing with as much accuracy as you want. What Aiight want's is the same ability only with photos that are taken from any perspective. This can be done if you create a new camera, make it a perspective camera and create a viewplane for it and put your image on that. Be warned though, it takes a heck of a lot of setting up to get the model right, because you pretty much have to match the camera´s position at the time of the photo, same type of lens and a number of things.. I can't reccomend it Konyak
