Alexrey 10 Posted July 3, 2009 First of all, I got a shit load of errors when it installed itself (I got about 30 or so), which I just clicked ignore. Once it was "patched" I went to my ArmA II folder and found that the patched files had been installed in the wrong place! Instead of being installed into E:\Program Files\ARMA II\Arma 2, they were installed in E:\Program Files\ARMA II... so I had to manually cut and paste them into their proper locations. Once I had done this I started up the game but got a pop-up that said something along the lines of bin\config.bin/cfgworlds/[some random error here], and found that my command menu had been messed up (I would give a command such as "get in" and my characted would tell them all to halt). I dunno wtf BI's problem is, but it seems as though they don't really know what they're doing. C'mon, you guys are PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMMERS! These are amateur mistakes you're making. So right now I have to use the v1.00 bin.pbo with the manually patched v1.02 files.
thr0tt 12 Posted July 3, 2009 Thanks for letting us know. Now, you are aware this is a troubleshooting forum where folk come to post errors and problems and ask for help in solving these issues. There currently are no forums for you to just complain and moan and say you know best and understand the fundamentals of patching (professional vs amateur). Placebo 29 Posted July 3, 2009 The demo installed itself to the x64 program files for me as well. ---------- Post added at 16:30 ---------- Previous post was at 16:29 ---------- I dunno wtf BI's problem is, but it seems as though they don't really know what they're doing. Comm512 10 Posted July 3, 2009 Hm.. that makes me wonder. I have a x64 OS and i manually changed the install dir to the 32 bit /program files (x86)/ upon arma2 install from the dvd. I applied patch and all is well. I dont know for dure that those 1.02 files were placed in the 64 bit programfiles dir arma2 says it is version 1.02.5.... I will check when i have access to the files
Alexrey 10 Posted July 3, 2009 It's just really annoying when you buy the game and it has so many errors. Couldn't they have extended development for another 6 months or so?
bushlurker 45 Posted July 3, 2009 (edited) I noticed this too... Game automatically default installs to C:\Program Files\etc directory and ignores the Program Files(x86) directory on 64bit installs... both Vista x64 and win7 x64... I've been trying every possible combination of 64 and 32 bit windows (XP, Vista and Win7) with various drivers etc in a - largely fruitless - bid to achieve both adequate head tracking and adequate FPS... No real success in either, but on the x64 installs I DID try installing both to the (64bit) Program Files\etc directory, AND the Program Files(x86) directories... game ran exactly the same on 64bit OS regardless of which Program Files folder it was in..... So - not much help I'm afraid, but it might save someone a load of fruitless testing..... B PS - for all my testing I just used the demo as a quick and easy install 'n test... PS#2 - BIS patches, indeed installers in general - are NOT smart... they will happily install to the default C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\Arma2\ directory - whether your game is there or not - it WON'T check... so if you have your main game on an E:\ drive, or in some non-default location - you will HAVE to manually direct all patches and all arma2 content that uses an installer to the correct directory..... Bulldogs 10 Posted July 3, 2009 Every patch I've installed has detected the location of my installation and automatically installed there (and I use a custom install location - G:\Games7\Arma 2) That said, I don't run a 64 bit OS
bushlurker 45 Posted July 3, 2009 XP 32bit installed on E:\ - game in default directory (E:\Program files, etc) - tried to install to C:\Program Files\etc - manual redirection required Win7 and Vista x64 - default install directory is to the 64bit folder, not the 32bit one - manual redirection required... I was also talking historically... (eg: 2 different official versions of OFP in circulation - one using default "Programfiles - no space), the other defaulting to "Program Files - with space) - manual redirection required... However - maybe sometimes it DOES detect - I dunno

We'll here's an analogy: it's like buying a car, that you think has four wheels, but after you've bought it you find out that it only has 2... I don't think the buyer would be happy about that. Yes, I know a car costs HEAPS more than a computer game, but it's the principle behind it that I'm trying to point out.I checked what version of XP I'm running and it's 32 bit so I shouldn't be getting these errors. :/ Does anyone know what I could do about this? Manually patching isn't perfect because, it still says that I'm running version 1.00, so I can't use a lot of the mods out there.
Bulldogs 10 Posted July 4, 2009 If you're using a 32bit OS (XP for example) : Run Regedit Goto HKLM->Software->Bohemia Interactive Studio->Arma 2-> Then look for the "Main" key, under data you should see a directory listed; If that directory isn't your install directory or if there is no key there for your directory then there's your problem
Alexrey 10 Posted July 4, 2009 My main key says: e:\Program Files\ARMA II, so should I change it to e:\Program Files\ARMA II\Arma 2 and then run the patch to get it properly installed?
Bulldogs 10 Posted July 4, 2009 Yep. I can't say for definite but if your registry key says e:\Program Files\ARMA II then that should be where it's going to try install so yes, change it to where you think it should be and hopefully that works. Just out of curiosity..... Did you previously install the game then install it again, or did you install the game then move it to another folder after install? Alexrey 10 Posted July 4, 2009 Thanks, changed the key and it seems to be patching fine so far. :) Really appreciate it man. Nope, only installed it once and that was on e:\Program Files\ARMA II
Bulldogs 10 Posted July 4, 2009 No probs mate. I figure it just bugged out during install for some odd reason, but I also figured it would reference there to see where to install to.
