Possibly fix for game freezing, lagging or bad fps

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I used to have good fps in big cities like Tchernogorsk around 50-60 fps but only standing and not moving, alone on the map.

But when runing or spinning 360° around me I noticed a lot of lag and freezing. My fps dropped around 10-20.

I was testing my graphics option trying to fix this issue when trying a combo fix all the problem.

Here is what i've done, test it and tell me if it works for you :

- launch the game

- open the editor and put your character in center of Tchernogorsk

- try spinning 360° around your character while zooming in and out and notice the freeze and lag

- open your graphic option

- put the video memory option to very low, the texture detail option will automatically be put to very low

- accept the change and returne into the game

- try spinning 360° again around your character while zooming in and out and notice again the freeze and lag

- now re-open your graphic option but change only the video memory option to high or very high, accept the change and return into the game. Very important don't change anythin just the VRAM option.

- try spinning 360° again around your character and notice no more freeze and lag!!:yay:

- you can go back to your graphic option and put the texture detail option to high if you put VRAM to high or very high if you put VRAM to very high (don't touch these two settings again)

- You will have to do this every time ou re-open arma (not the editor test, just changing the VRAM and texture detail)

Now my fps are capped to 55-60 even when running, spinning, zooming, everything is more smooth.

Here are my specs :

XP32 SP3

Asus P5Q Pro

4 Gb @1066

Q9650 @ 3,8GHz

HD4890 OC

Arma option :

1920*1200

Fillrate - 100%

Texture Detail - Very High

Video Memory - Very High

Anisotropic Filtering - High

AA - Disabled (low = fps killer on my 4890)

Terrain Detail - Normal

Objects Detail - High

Shadow Detail - High

PostProcess Effects- Disabled

Maybe it will work just for me, maybe it will work just for Ati's card or just for 4890.

But just give it a try, I was amazing to see that just a litlle combo like this can change the game.

I dunno if it's a problem from arma or from my graphic card.

Hope it help.

This trick doesn't work for me but I found better solution. I found that if I have Texture Detail=Normal and Video Memory=Very High with AA=Disabled than I receive HUGE performance increase and it removes constant and annoying texture redrawing when I turn around.

ARMA2 option :

1920*1200

Fillrate - 100%

Texture Detail - Normal

Video Memory - Very High

Anisotropic Filtering - High

AA - Disabled

Terrain Detail - High

Objects Detail - High

Shadow Detail - High

PostProcess Effects- Disabled

Visual Distance - 3000

And I who have been running normal.. I heard normal shadows and below stress the cpu more than the gpu.. high seems actually better overall.. cant say i get a big fps increase, it's about the same (only have 2x8800 gts 512mb so not that great to begin with) however if i can get high gfx with same performance, this is great.

So I was thinking maybe there are other options that takes some stress from the cpu.. only have a 3ghz dual core so..
