Sgt Kabukiman 0 Posted March 11, 2002 Okay folks, I have a Picture, 256*256 Pixel in Photoshop 6. It has an Alpha-Channel for Transparency... But when I save it as *.TGA and open it in TexView 1.1 to save it, upload it onto my webspace, edit my squad.xml, I get an eroormessage: Cannot open /tmp/blahblah/flag.tga Sometimes I get around this errormessage (the no errormessage appears), but then I don't have any Logo's on vehicles.... Help! - Which format do I have to save my picture in Photoshop6 (TGA, 256*256, 24 or 32bit)??? - What next? What do I have to do with TexView 1.1 Save it as *.paa or what? A simple-to-understand Step-by-step-Guide wille be appreciated very much.... Thanks in advance....
theavonlady 2 Posted March 11, 2002 Search The FAQ for "squad xml". In the same article, there's a link for using a logo with transparency.
Sgt Kabukiman 0 Posted March 11, 2002 Yes, I know, I already saw it, but it's too vague.... (at least it is for me...) I really love your FAQ! - nothing about which format to save in Photoshop (256*256? 24 or 32bit?) - The TexView-Part is possibly my mistake.... it's something I'm doing wrong, I'm sure... either on the "Alpha-Channel"-Part of Photoshop or on the Texview-stuff... The logo file must be a non-progressive (zero progressive passes) 32x32, 64x64 or 128x128 pixel 24 bit color JPG file with a maximum of 300 pixels per inch. The logo can contain transparent color. Read more about that here."
Sgt Kabukiman 0 Posted March 11, 2002 Sure, but ain't that for JPEG's? JPEG's cannot contain transparency, only TGA, GIF or PNG can, no JPG... I also cannot open a JPG with TexView, I cannot save a JPG with TexView... See my problem? It works problem-free with a JPG (we're currently using a JPG), but I want transparency in it, and that only works with a TGA, but on a TGA-saving Dialogue you don't have these Options (non progressive, zero progressive passes etc.) What Options do I have to set in the TGA-Saving Dialogue to keep the transparent Alpha-Channel in it with Photoshop
theavonlady 2 Posted March 11, 2002 The only thing I see so far different from The FAQ item is you're using a 256x256 JPG, while The FAQ mentions a 128x128 maximum. 256x256 is working for you as a JPG, correct? Have you tried 128x128x24? What the pic's PPI?
theavonlady 2 Posted March 11, 2002 Again, follow through on The FAQ item about transparency. You create an alpha channel and save it as a TGA file using photoshop. You then simply open the TGA with TextView and save it.
Sgt Kabukiman 0 Posted March 11, 2002 Yeah, the 256*256 JPG works flawless! Tried everything with transparency, even 24bit, 32bit, 128*128, you name it.... But I found another thread here on this board, that says you don't need to use TexView at all! Maybe that's the problem, using TexView.... Ill try it without converting in Texview, thanks anyway for your help!!! http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....uad.xml That's the link to the thread.... ALDEGA 0 Posted March 11, 2002 First you need to make sure you are familiar with graphics editing in general. You can do two things: - use opaque transparency (as used in my squad logo) - use alpha transparency The transparency data is to be stored in the alpha channel (note that the .tga format only supports 1 alpha channel). check out my squad logo here: http://www.fair4all.cz/OF/squad/logo.paa Btw, you shouldn't put "xxx.tga" in your squad.xml You must use jpg/pac/paa. So make your logo, save it as .tga. Open the .tga in Texview. Save it (the utilty should automaticly save it as paa). Then update your squad.xml to match the name of your new logo (e.g. "logo.paa"). Also don't forget to upload the new logo and squad.xml
