Hints and tips to a new onliner.

Recommended Posts

Im chugging through campaign, but looking at a go on online. I have read Dyslexic (sp?) Guide on the game, but well am still confused. I have hit up a few servers and am lost. So can anyone give me some help really. Like what most servers are playing and what to do on them, anything really will be of help.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi niall0

There is a list of ArmA MP mission types in this thread, it is by no means complete:

http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=75001

there will be one that matches the game form you like, but try to be open and try out some of the other game modes, ArmA has a habit or rolling over peoples preconceptions and you may be pleasantly surprised.

I would suggest you join one of the many clans. ArmA II is an excellent MP game there are already many servers and new ones starting every day. Have a look here to find one that suits you but wonder around a bit just to get the lay of the land:

The top stickied thread has a directory of clans, but read the threads that each clan you are interested in has started and follow the link to the clans website to get extra info.

Be aware that; that the nice facilities like map markers that follow your opponents round and things like cross-hairs and third person view will probably not be available on veteran servers.

  1. Press G at ammo box's and your be able to get a different selection of weapons and load out.
  2. Flag poles on the main base, click on here and you should be able to respawn at any moblie hq's (apc) letting you get to the action zones.
  3. Parachute drops are setoff with left clicking. you don't get a warning. Using right mouse button you can scroll around the map. Scroll to zoom in and out of map.
  4. M for map you can add markers on by double left clicking. you can change the type of marker by using the left shift. ( colour represents the comms channel )
  5. Red area's are where you should be thinking of going to mission targets
  6. Green named targets are part of your group.
  7. enemy targets come up as red, but if you have friendlies in them you will see their names.
  8. / changes the channel that your chatting/voip in blue for side. direct for anyone around you.
  9. first aid can be got at field stations or if your lucky change your status to injuried and medic can see you.
  10. middle mousebutton is for selecting actions to interact with anything. also gives you status which you should be able to add names to map.
  11. spacebar should put you in command mode so you can identify targets before shooting and range to target. ( dead targets come up too ) helps to cut down on friendly fire.
  12. MP(multiplayer) if you dont know how to use it leave it to practice else where.

nice thread. Also, if you get stuck in no mans land, communicate to the pilots and they will be happy to pick u up.

Spacebar doesn't put you in command mode(on my default settings anyway) it loads up additional action voice commands

Hi jonneymendoza

Does the space bar bring up a light green circle in the middle of the screen for you?

cant remember but whenever i press it, a small list at the right side of my screen pops up with some action commands. maybe its disabled and enables on a server?

either way im doing it the expert way of finding out friendlies and enemies. i once saw 3 enemies walking 20 yards away from me, i thought they was friendlies as they diddnt spot me or too blind to as i was so close to them. popped one and it diddnt say it was a TK so i popped the rest of them :)
