FartFetish 10 Posted June 27, 2009 Whelp, I took the plunge today and purchased ArmA 2 off of Steam, as I was a big fan of the first game. Here are my specs: AMD Windsor 6400+ 3.2Ghz dualcore 1mb cache 3 gig ram Radeon 4870 1gb Audigy 2 7200 RPM HD (soon buying a 10,000 RPM HD) Win XP 32bit I have all settings on normal, with shadows and post processing set to OFF. I play at 1650x1080 as I have a 22inch wide screen. Yet during campaign play, I'm getting around 23 FPS. Is this normal? I have a couple questions here. I have an extra gig of ram I can stick inside my PC, but haven't due to Win XP being 32 bit. Should I anyways? What's holding my FPS back, my GFX card or my CPU? Thanks alot for the help! note: All drivers are up to date and absolute latest versions.
ebud 18 Posted June 27, 2009 (edited) Not sure how normal it is, but you really need to drop all settings to low, lower the resolution AND lower your view distance and terrain settings. Then start scaling up until you get a good mix of screen/3d resolution, view distance and graphic details. This is more of a highly detailed flight sim engine than a typical game level for a FPS so you cannot expect it to run the same as it would for COD4/BF2/HL2 etc. It just won't. <edit> As far as what's holding you back? Dunno as you have a better setup than I do, but I defragged several times/several ways, ran Game Booster and have been humble in what I expect as far as visuals go. Runs smooth as silk but not at a visual level most would be willing to accept. Edited June 27, 2009 by Ebud
