The impossible-to-modify-game

Recommended Posts

-I'm stating the obvious.

We, as the fans, are open to our own opinions.

BUT, don't get me wrong, this DOES sound like complainging, doesn't it?

Before you press the Close & Delete button, hear me out.

And I promise I'll do what I can to keep the Complaining level close, if not, at Zero.

Maruk, I know you probably won't read this, but anyways:

I understand you want to keep this game close, if not, the way it is.

With the "Filtering" Shall we say, of Oxygen, you can recieve high quality add-ons.

BUT, witht he changing of that ".ini." thing, (creating new faces, sounds, etc.) we cannot Modify Operation Flashpoint anymore.

For example, as I was patiently waiting for Diablo II, I went out and purchased Heratic 2, wich I found relativey amusing.

What I'm trying to say is, while we wait a couple months for the tools to be released publicly, it would be nice to play with some addons.

Correct me if I'm wrong, since BIS protected the "box.ini" thing, we cannot create anymore addons? (Or is does that only apply to multiplayer?)

So we cannot have anymore sound replacment packs, or anymore faces?

Isn't it our own choice to edit our own game they way we want it?

So what if I want yellow faces, or wierd sounds when there walking, that's our own choice.

Now, BIS, prepare for the biggest insault that has ever been conjured up before:

You're acting like Dynamix, the creators of the so-called famous game, Tribes 2.

They went bankruped.

They took away the in-game forums because people were 'flaming' eachother. -We paid for the game, thus, we paid for the community. They messed up there game with patches, so it could be a bit more realistic. Tribes 2 isn't supposed to be realistic, it's all about gameplay.

Day of Defeat, A great MoD for Half-Life, before Beta 2.0, there was this "uniqe" syle of gameplay. They ruined it with realism.

Now, you may think I'm saying "bring down realism, and rais gameplay!"

No I'm not,I'm 101% towards Realism for games that ARE supposed to be realistic, THAT'S WHERE OPERATION FLASHPOINT *SHINES*, no, GLIMMERS!

It mixes in perfect gameplay with wonderful realism, hopping in an enemy truck and running them over with it.. biggrin.gif

I tottally agree with the "filtering" of Oxygen, "why?" do you ask,

Because I know we all are going to get it later, and personally I can wait.

The reason I was bumed out when it wasn't coming to the community was because OTHER people wanted it, OTHER people with talents anted to model with it.

To tell you the truth, I REAALY SUCK AT MODELING.

I didn't really care that Oxygen wasn't realeased a week or so back, I CARED BECAUSE OTHER PEOPLE WANTED IT. (Sorry for the Capatalization, i'm to lazy to "Bold" the letters, I'm not SCREAMING at you, by the way.)

So as I close this post I just want to say "Thanks BIS for such a wonderous game!" It's truley ground breaking, and well worth the 5+ years of development. It deserves more than a 75 in PCGamer.

To sum up this post I'm just trying to say these to things:

-Why can't we Modify OUR game in OUR vision, after all, we DID pay for it. wink.gif

-next time, I'd like Maruk to tell us whats gonna happen, I'm tired of waiting for thigs around the corner. And then some not-so-sudden change happens, and I'm at the back of the room again, waiting for it to come around the corner.

To final this post, to end it, to delete it, to close it, to stop this post, you would be lying to yourself.

These are the facts.

And, I do owe A HUGE apolagey: (Happy, I bolded it)

I'm sorry, for I have broke my promise of not complaing.

Now I have to end this post before I run out of characters.

Thanks for your time, I GREATLY appriaciate it.

Sid

(P.S. I'm sorry for any Typos, I'm only 13 yrs. old, after all!wink.gif

I think he means the 'config.bin' check to see if the game has been modified.

I think this mainly applies to multiplayer Sid and it won't stop all addons, just the ones that alter the functioning of the game. Even then I'm sure serious mod makers can find workrounds if need be. Just think of it as tightening the ground rules rather than a complete ban.

Hmmmm they made DOD the best half life mod ever (in my mind) when they sent out DOD 2.0. Why should you be able to run and jump and still hit with every shot with the garand that has a pretty hard recoil. mad.gif I guess you or ones of those people who only like a game where you have aimbot unlimited ammo and shields to protect you. tounge.gif JK

You can still do addons, and you can still edit the config.bin too, its just that if you and the server have a different config.bin file you will get the "player uses a modified config file" message and in future versions you can be automatically disconnected too. And this is to stop cheating and its good.

That doesn't stop the game being modified, it just alerts the users on the server that the person has a modified config. How did he get "box.ini" from config.bin? truely odd...

I definetly have to disagree with you saying they ruined DoD with 2.0 . Just learn how to use the weapons (like the garand) and you realize that the garand is an awesome gun once you control it.

IMO when you pay for the game, you are paying for the game, not expansion/mod.

I have OFP and HALF-LIFE...

I agree, OFP is good for REALISM...

HALF-Life(and CS for that matter) is still fun, but, since HALF-LIFE was made for gameplay, and fun (not seriousness) DoD was kinda the DULL and BORING, i.e you die in 1-2 shots, while (I'm estimating) In CS, it takes around 4-7 shots to kill a guy (magnums discluded). So, BIS, release the O2 before we all suffocate and go somewhere else! wow.gif

-I know, I know, forgive me for my typos tounge.gif
