ArmA 2 (Cant finish installing)

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I pre-ordered ArmA 2 from a well known UK shop, it arrives on day of release (19/06/09). However when I try to actually install the game, it goes brilliantly well, except for the very last part, it’s on about 99% completion when a window pops up saying that it can’t find/missing file “Uninstall.exeâ€, at this point the hole install freezes and once click on “ok/ X†it just shuts down. I’ve repeated the process over 3 times now and it’s the same thing over and over….

I explored the files on CD, and it seems that it’s all there (all of the uninstalling files anyway). Could anyone please help? What should I do, it there a way to fix this or should I return the game, swap it for a new copy?

Thanks very much for your time, Phil

P.s. I apologise in advance if this has been repeated before, but i have looked and looked and looked, without finding much on my issue.

P.p.s. I have a high end pc, used for graphical work, so I don’t believe it’s the problem with my spec.

Probably little consolation, but I'm another UK user having a very similar issue.

Gets to copying across almost all the files and hangs when trying to copy Uninstall.csv.

Very frustrating. I've punted an email into customer support. Will see what happens...

if its only missing the uninstaller just use the task manager to kill the installer process

Yes but when I then try to rerun the .exe that has been copied on the drive, it hangs saying "Bad serial number given in startup". Also patch 1.02 doesn't recognise an installed copy on the drive.

I've tried this with a second copy of the game. Exactly the same problem.

Bottom line the UK version doesn't install.

So theres no point for me to return it and get a new copy then??? GREAT!

Can't belive it waited so long for this to come out and now its so bugy that even the install cant work, but as far as saying the UK version doesnt work cant be true, I mean thats a massive screw up, the amount of returns that would be, its possible but at a huge cost.....

So does any news on how to fix it (except for buying the US version), or are they going to re-reliease it all fixed or something completely different?

Thanks, Phil

There's nothing wrong with the UK release in general. Maybe you were unlucky to get a faulty product?

Kandrat; Jon Tseng:

Any luck with solving this yet? I too have installation problems. Hard copy of 505 version from a GAME store.

No not yet, it seems kind of strange to have this error, apparently its with quite a lot of people. I've bought mine from the same store, and here I am, but I'm just thinking if the US version is bugy, might get it on amazon and shiped for quite cheap....???

Wrote to 505 too, no reply yet.....

Hmmm.... damn. Well, will email 505 too and see if I get a response.

Tried again and still the same error.

To be more specific, it is not upon installing uninstall.exe which this happens, but 'cheranus_data_layer.pbo'. And states it is a "File copy error (CRC does not match)". See screenshot below.

EDIT: I checked the CD and this file is there and is 208 MB (219,076,450 bytes). Can someone with a completed installation of ArmAII from a 505 version check this file is the correct size?

EDIT 2: And no problem in copying the file manually from the disk to the desktop.

EDIT 3: Checked disk, gave it a blow and gentle whipe. Tried third time to reinstall - same problem.

Hi everyone i have the same problem with "File not found: e:\uninstall.exe" (e: is my DVD driver).

Im from Sweden and I bought it here, its a 505 games version aswell. I've tried to install it 4 times from the disk and 2 times where i've copied everything to a hard drive(which made the install like 5 times faster). And all of the times it ended with the same message.

I googled these problems and people have had it for ArmA1. Some suggest copying disk contents to hardrive and from that installing the game in safe mode. Will attempt and report with results.

EDIT: No luck on safe mode from harddrive.

Any workarounds for this???

Finally received my copy today (postal strike  ) and the installer is hanging @ 99% on Uninstall.csv.

Windows (Vista32 SP1) is popping up "ArmA Setup has stopped working" and error msg

Problem signature:

Problem Event Name: InPageError

Error Status Code: c000009c

Faulting Media Type: 00000005

OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3

Locale ID: 2057

Additional Information 1: fd00

Additional Information 3: fd00

I was expecting some bugs but an installer not working?? This is ridiculous :(

---------- Post added at 07:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:34 PM ----------

Fixed!

Copied entire dvd to its own folder.

Right clicked the setup.exe properties-compatibility and checked "Run as administrator"

Installed from the folder without changing the install path

Works :)

I dont know which of those options made the difference but it works for me, could be pure luck. Don't care, patched up n Im off to play :p

505 responded:

-Update disc drive

-Install from harddrive

No update available for disc drive. Install from harddrive, in both normal and safe mode, has the same cheranus_data_layer.pbo File copy CRC error.

Will swap for a new disk at the shop tomorrow.

Nah, no need with XP. Just part of vista's stupid UAC.

Im guessing we've got slightly dodgy disks or the Securom/Copy protection doesnt like our DVD drives - just 2 of the reasons i go for Steam versions over physical disks any time I can.

Return it and wait for the steam release, something I was too impatient to do :D

Fixed.

Very strange. Tried again from DVD, and this time it worked.

Inbetween the last attempt I did the following, however I would be very cautious in taking too much from any of this.

-Again tried to clean it

-Disabled firewall (did this before when running setup from harddrive but did not before when installing from disk or when copying files from disk)

-Found an upgrade to disk drive. It was an update which was not supported for my Laptop model, but risked it.

So unsure if any of these aided in the install, or if it was just a fluke.

Hmmm, I donno, im trying the harddrive method with running it as admin, see if it work, if not return it and just wait for the game of the year eddition or gold (whatever it will be called), quite dissapointed at the quality from bis/505

What do you mean "cleaned it"?

And again I got the same error of doom message!

Just an Idea! If to download the demo, and copy over the uninstall files, could that work???

What do you mean "cleaned it"?

-I just blew on the disk and gently wiped it with a cloth. I could see a small smudge in the light. This seems the most unlikely cause however as it was brand new and a tiny smudge.

-The firewall I disabled was just a standard Windows Firewall.

-Disk drive update seems most likely cause. The firmware update was for my disk drive but was supposed to be for much newer laptops, but it still works OK now for me. I say most likely as alot of people have been saying changing hardware around has helped, and that is the closest link to a hardware change.

Maybe demo idea would work. But does the install not fail when it cant copy and deletes all the files? So maybe installing demo, then copy over AA2 (full) files into demo folder??
