Issue with ati mobile 4870x2 card in Asus W90 laptop

Recommended Posts

I tried loading arma on my friends asus W90 laptop (the big beast the it is). I patched everything up to 1.15 beta because it said it fix ati graphics issues on vista 64 bit running 6gigs or more of memory. But everytime i load up the game it sits there with the wheel turning then goes to an unuseable grey black screen. I have tried to switch to a lower screen res before launching the game all to no help. Is there a way to get into the config file to change wide screen resolution? Also i looked at ati website and there is no offical driver update as of yet. Thanks for viewing my post. Any help would be appreciated. :)

Sorry but i just was looking more at post and found and ati 4890 user was having the same problem. So i guess i will try that 1.16beta patch tomorrow on his machine and see how that goes. Also found the commands for window mode. Thanks again for viewing and sorry for the later find.

If you manually activated Crossfire on all games, please turn it off as ArmA does not support this

....

Crossfire runs fine. It runs great. Stop the fud. Though you do need to rename the arma.exe. I use arma2.exe. you can use crysis, fear ect... But since ARMA2 has CF out of the box with out a rename, i us it; arma2.exe.

As for the issue of the OP, 1.15 fixed the vista issue for ATI cards under the 4870... 1.16 fixes ALL the ATI vista problems. if you need to use 1.15 then its window mode or boot with 3gb of ram. Id just use the 1.16b and rename to arma2.exe.

What i did to fix the problem was load the 1.16patch. Modified the shortcut to run 1.16 with the ace mod. Everything runs great. Once again thanks for your respondes. Also i tried windows mode (-window) it launched into windows screen but i couldn't maximize it. But as i say all it well. Cya.
