Matt International 10 Posted April 23, 2009 Hello all, My suggestion relates to the XBox 360. Which I hope will see this title. I know the website claims it will be released on "next gen" (what is "next gen" anyway?...er, that's a rhetorical question for any smart alec's) consoles but I'm well aware that this genre is very PC oriented due to the command system and heavy use of key commands which can be difficult to adapt to a joypad. That said, I owned Operation Flashpoint on PC and Xbox and found the adaptation pretty good. I missed Arma as I got fed up of throwing money at my PC everytime I wanted a new game. Which brings me to my point... ...I have a USB keyboard connected to my 360 as I hate using a joypad to navigate an onscreen keyboard and the plug in to your joypad thingy, well, it cost 4 times as much as a USB keyboard and it's all small 'n' fiddly. Anyway, is there any possibility of allowing people to use a keyboard on the XBox360? I know not everyone would have this luxury and appreciate that the game is very close to release. Maybe a patch later on or an optional download on the live marketplace (provided you don't do what EA do and charge the earth for features that should be in the game in the first place, grrrr). Well, that's my thought anyway. Doesn't seem that hard to do, but I'm not a software programmer. Toodle pip.
max power 21 Posted April 23, 2009 As for the rhetorical question, it's actually a good one. I remember having this discussion on youtube (of all places) as to what 'next gen' console means in BIS's literature. Some people feel this obviously means 'Xbox 360', as this generation of consoles was touted as 'next gen' for so long. I personally figure it means not this xbox 360 generation but possibly the xbox 720 or whatever they will call it.

If it is intended to be the follow on from the 360 and PS3, whatever they will be called, I shall be very dissappointed. Given that these consoles will not be around for another few years by my estimation (2012 at a guess). Especially in the case of Playstation. It is still a mere baby in comparison to the 360 (And I mean in age not ability). "next gen" is a very amiguous term in my opinion.
An-225 0 Posted April 23, 2009 In a way, Microsoft and Sony did a "shock and awe" on us and impressed a lot of people with their consoles. A lot of people still consider the Xbox 360 and PS3 to be the cutting edge of consoles, and for that reason, people still consider them next gen, especially considering how long they should last. I doubt that Microsoft and Sony are up for developing a whole new console right now, so current gen consoles will probably last a while. The 360 and PS3 also have not been around for a long period of time, so I guess that adds to the reason. Don't worry, it will definitely come to the 360 if they still intend to bring it to consoles, and possibly, hopefully, PS3.
Matt International 10 Posted April 24, 2009 ....I doubt that Microsoft and Sony are up for developing a whole new console right now, so current gen consoles will probably last a while.... I'd be very surprised if they are not working on something. I don't go for rumours, and there are a few going around. Xbox720 (this strikes me as a lame name made by some numpty) and such, the one that does intrigue me though.... The great marketing gurus at Apple apparently feel they should enter the console market. Again, I haven't seen anything official. But, I would not expect to see anything concrete for a year or two yet. And even then, once there is an official announcement, there's another wait. Damn the marketing departments and their hype! max power 21 Posted April 24, 2009 2011 or 2012 does seem a little late for releasing the console version. You are probably right.
Matt International 10 Posted April 24, 2009 (edited) 2011 or 2012 does seem a little late for releasing the console version. You are probably right. Hehe, OFP: Elite took longer:D And, I don't know when the next consoles will be released I'm just guessing that given a console is generally around for 5 or 6 years before it's descendant appears, we would see them around then. An-225 0 Posted April 24, 2009 My doubt for the new console comes from the economy at this point in time. Microsoft axed 50,000 people. Included in those people, was the ACES team, the team that brought us several iterations of Flight Simulator. If the team developing Flight Simulator was axed, that surely cannot be a good sign, and I don't think Microsoft is up for experimenting with a new console when the X360 is surely good enough for now. To cut off a proven franchise like Flight Simulator removes a lot of doubt that it will be a while til a next gen console.
Cardhu 0 Posted April 29, 2009 The XBox 360 is a good overall concept with one serious problem - extremely poor reliability. For that reason, we own a PS3 but not an XBox 360. Whatever console BIS does develop their games for, we hope that they remember one crucial capability: Split screen play for 2-4 players for both offline and online play. Many game developers are completely overlooking the console game players with family and friends who actually like to play together in the same room at the same time. The mistake these game developers are making is assuming that one console = one player, whether online or offline. This is a serious mistake that we hope BIS will not make. This mistake in game design is especially incomprehensible in a market with high resolution TVs finally inexpensive enough to be affordable and the transition to digital broadcast formats driving families to replace obsolete TVs with new high definition sets.
