Nato exercise in czech republic

Hey folks,

i have my weekend house not far from well known czech MTA Doupov-Hradiste (for you not military dudes it does mean Military Training Area), and i have discovered (dont ask me how )  that US army (maybe some other NATO armies too) should have there huge exercise (more than 100 days). And because im really interst in USArmy, especialy in military aviation, i want to go there a take few pictures.

But i dont want to be shot as spy, so im asking you: Dont you now anyone whos there, or dont you now the exact unit?

Cause it will be much easier for me to take those pictures with some kind official permission.

I say go there and take pics anyway....long as you don't trespass can't do nothing.

Also I say dress all in bright BRIGHT orange....hard for them to say you were a spy when everyone within 10 miles could see you

I have permission to go there by foot and permision to adrive any car in teh MTA (only 5 permissions of this kind), but im affraid of the soldires ready to shot. I remember when there was Legion Entrangere we have littel picture accident

eh....you know...live targets ARE very tempting.......

My suggestion is that you contact whoever is in charge of MTA and ask them to findout where you can contact to meet(or get permission of) US troops. If possible, do it as a representative of BIS, citing that you guys are the ones behind OFP/VBS. By this way, I hope they will be nicer to you. If you are just a civilian, they will not be happy, but if you are some mil sim dev team, they wouldn't mind(my guess). Of course, you need to talk to your people at BIS first to get things straight.

You are a spy....i'll contact nearest FBI office and have them call NATO headquarters, who will in turn contact Czech authorities and have you arrested!!

i say....dress like a german tourist, that way if you get caught you can say you were looking for elks (mooses?) and got lost in the mta (which you of course thought meant "mountain")

another thing to do...call the army or the police and ask for advice, they will for sure help you.

ps, tell them that you are a part of the famous BIS and that you need some photos for the game, and you need to see the things work in real life to feel the atmoshpere they provide etc etc......just some small lies.

forgot to add:

plz stick with their training schedule. don't wander around trying to get pictures. whether you are wearing bright color shirt or not. i'm pretty sure there are some sort of observation area or something like that. stay there, and don't be stupid enough to go out to field on your own. Just becuase you made OFP, doesn't mean you'll be James Gastovski in real life.

maybe you can even follow the troops

yup, i know...just thought that it would fit well into the "german tourist" camouflage heheh

anyways, if you do get to take some pictures, posting some on this forum would be very nice, we are all intrested in that im sure

when i was in the army i remember 1 jet flying just abowe us at highspeed (tree top level) followed by 2 other jets in close formation...it looked so cool and i really hoped i had a camera back then, i saw the trees wave and leafs drop cos of the exhaust of the jets.....they were that low, and really really fast

I have few army and CT experinces too (even grwoe in Airswoft :-), so im better then James Gastowski

(btw my position in BIS is 2D/3D Artist - Military Advisor)

Im too not so young as it looks (in fact im 21 (almost  so im not "horny" to die on shooting range cause im so stupid i run into live fire exercise :-)

If you do get into trouble just repeat after me,

I dont think they would be using live ammunition though becuase there arnt many areas still used for it. I would imagine it will be a simulation exericse with the electronic sensors. I would imagine that if you speak nicely to a senior officer then you might be able to get away from the spectators area.

Doupov-Hradiste is biggest livefire MTA area in europe (except navals).

It does have 140 sq.km overall.

30 sq.km are for coordintion areas, that does mean: Get from A to B and shot anythnig you encounter.

And there is separate aircarft and artilery shooting range, and EOD areas.

Lot of fun on really small area

Hey monkey, Im certian that the army dont use live ammunition on Dartmoor, they must be blanks.

BTW Im doing ten tours in may. Nice 45 mile trek over that place freezing my arse off

Hey, I play Airsoft too!! How about coming over to England one day? Creator of James Gastovski vs. Gastovski wannabe, must be a very interesting duell

As for the pictures, I would ask the Military Police around there if it is ok to take pictures or not. Better than being arrested on spy charges.

That's interesting. As far, as I'm aware that number of MTA in Poland exceeds 200 sq.km. And in fact there is huge NATO excercise in Poland and Norway at the very moment.

That's more precise info.

I don't blame you, I was just courious . It's just that I heard that best MTAs in Europe are in former Warsaw Pact countries and Polish ones are second biggest to USSR.

BTW I tshink that OFP is my closest encounter with army, as I managed to avoid Peoples Army of Poland (and Polish Army novadays) by means of some evasive manuevers during last 15 years.

I'm not really sure what you mean by live fire area but Rovajärvi life fire shooting area in northern Finland is about 1200 sq.km and it is reported to be the largest in western europe.

It is used mainly by the finnish artillery but also other branches of the military uses it.

There was an article in the official army magazine.

I was just about to post about Rovajärvi but you were quicker.

Maybe it is not counted in because it is in Scandinavia. 140 sq.km sounds tiny compared to ours 1200 sq.km

But back to original question. You should contact brigades security officer (roughly translated) who can give permission for you to photograph. Thats how it is in Finland if I remember it right.

I think if you take the official way they will no give you the permission. I realy dont think so. And if you get caught then...wow then you got trouble. I would just show up there as a stupid tourist... you are no terrorist, you are no spy so what the hell you are afraid of? Go for it, it is thrill
