stgn 39 Posted March 1, 2009 I came across this addon: Col_kutz M40A3 1.0 And read in the readme this: Quote[/b] ]The formula you will use to figure out range to target is...Height Of Target X 27.8 ----------------------- Â Â Â = range to target (m) Mils read Note: Over the course of working with this addon, we have found that the math for the mil dot formula is in the American number system, including yards, but for some reason the name is in meters for ranging to target. (example: t-72 is at 700m in ofp, it is really 700 yards (roughly 640 m in real life) but will say 700m in ofp). I interpet this as saying that the distance shown in ofp ex: when marking a taget for the AI, that the distance shown as meters ingame is actualy yards relativ to the scale of the landscape and models which is in meters. Can enyone confirm this I don't know how to test it? The real world mil dot formula states X 25.4 for meters to target, but atleast when using this addon you need the formula the qoute, basic shoting on desert island confirms that you need this way of calculating to hit acuratly with this addon. Also if its true that ingame distance is measured in yards how does this affect the configuration of a weapon addon? Is Initspeed, dispersion and point of aim(distanceZoomMin/Max) calculated pr the ingame shown distance or is it seperated from that?. According to the comented config things shouch as maxleadspeed is calculated in km/h but is every thing metric except of the ingame distance reading? sanctuary 19 Posted March 2, 2009 I remember several years ago, there were some posts about distances in OFP not being in meters, but i can't find again the discussion with the search engine. But i would find a bit bizarre that OFP distance are calculated by the engine in yards despite the display in meters, as in Czech it is the metric system that is used. For the map grids, their size if you want to experiment : You are almost there. Map size is 12.8 km (256x50 m). Grid size is therefore 1.28 km (large grid) or 128 m (fine grid). stgn 39 Posted March 2, 2009 Just found htis thread: Link Here "Shadow" says all distances in OFP is metric I guess this settles it? Maby the addon maker made some error when calculating the scope. Or my testing of the addon was flawed who knows, I am not gonna bother wasting more time thinking about this. STGN
