[Multiplayer] Weird Client Crashes

Player Amount: Between 2-25

Server Signature Checks Enabled

Problems:

[*] Sometimes when going from Briefing into game, everyone crashes.

[*] Sometimes when someone joins, he joins as bird (<no group>:1 for instance), everyone else crashes.

Best Guesses:

[*] Due to desync or delayed initialization on clients during joining/jipping (maybe amount of scripts/functions and preProcessor directives), the new player object doesn't initialize properly

No subgroupI would guess that 1 or multiple persons are actually Bird, which causes the crash.

What I don't understand is that ppl can become Bird in a "Respawn at Base" mission :S smile_o.gif

I've spent countless hours optimizing and debugging scripts and addons, but until now I have yet to find the cause and fix.

Very hard to create a reproducable situation, it seems to happen sometimes, but still no clue what is the cause smile_o.gif

I was wondering if it could simply be an engine bug, or still something wrong in my scripts or addons.

You mean everyone aside the server? We have this problem too. It happens when restarting/reselecting a mission without a different mission in between.

Our RPT looks a little different, but we have the Subgroup in there too, just before everyone crashs.

So you mean that this happens whenever you would use #reassign or #restart?

Or do you mean it happens whenever you select the same mission with #missions, that you played the round before?

I guess your rpt comes from the server? Mine are from Clients.

However, you are not experiencing the problem when someone joins? So not the "- No subgroup" when someone jips, and everyone crashes?

Thinking along the lines of the mentioned cause, it might simply be a player who played the mission, and (re)joins as jip player?

If anyone knows how to edit the Disconnect button in menu so that it doesn't bring you back to assignment screen but instead directly back to server browser... might be a good test?

1. AI with out guns

2. Client/Server Crash

3. Unmanned units start upside down

4. Most scripted Event handerlers not running on JIP players and so on

I found that just useing #missions is the best way.

As a heads up this issue only started after BIS implamented persistant battle command.

Thanks, we already only use #missions command, however sometimes there might be an unexperienced player that is voted admin, and use the #restart or #reassign command.

Hence it is important for me to know if i0n1s means the #restart/#reassign command, or if simply choosing the same mission with #missions command, is what he meant.

Do the #restart/#reassign commands screw up the same, on both persistent = 0; as persistent = 1; servers?

Well when i was running he ATOW server i found that it did not matter if Persistent Battle was on or not. I also noticed that some times even if you use the #missions command on a server that had already played a mission on i had to start the mission and then reselect it again using #missions as *some times* the Pre placed AI would start with out guns. its a strange bug but seams to only happen at the start where the load is the largest.

We have no pre-placed ai, only pre-placed player entities with disableAI setting in description.ext. (All AI is built by DAC (preset or custom zonesetup submitted by commander), and RTE by i0n1s)

I'm just thinking, this might be related too? instead of taking over an ai as player, this way your unit gets created during join, instead of during start... Might be somehow relevant.

This happens when using #missions and selecting the same mission again.

The rpt are from the server.

I can't tell about jip.
