walbatross 0 Posted March 3, 2002 I just bought the gold edition and right out of the box the game will not run. I have upgraded and run the game after each upgrade and reboot. I tried the game at versions 1.0, 1.3 and I get the same results each time. I can't get version 1.45 to install. I have read throught the faqs on codemasters, bis and avon lady and tried those things that apply to me and I still cannot get the game to run. After running operation flashpoint exec file, both preferences auto detect and just exec, the logo appears then I get the windows crash message. I have Windows XP, Pentium 4 1.8Ghz, 32MB NVIDIA RIVA TNT 2 MODEL 64, 512MB DDR SDRAM, CD-RW drive and DVD drive. If anyone has had similar problems with what I have or have any suggestion I would really appreciate it. I am looking forward to playing the game.

walbatross 0 Posted March 3, 2002 The crash message I get from windows is the standard XP problem window, i.e. "Operation Flashpoint has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. etc...", error report. I've used my gold upgrade to upgrade to 1.3 and I've downloaded version 1.45 but it won't install, I get the similar error message immediately after logo appears. I ran dxdiag and it comes up clean. jakespeed 0 Posted March 3, 2002 I am having EXACTLY the same prob as Walbatross. Â Gold Edition fresh out of the box, tried to run, got the error message. Â Tried to upgrade to 1.45, won't go. Â Athlon 900TB, Windows XP, 768 MB RAM.
walbatross 0 Posted March 3, 2002 I've been searching through the forums older threads and I've seen that alot of people are having the same problem. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. I was afraid I was losing my touch. I usually can get anything to work! Ok l8r, I will keep checking back here. Thanks for all the attention. I've emailed all the appropriate people, I hope, and hope to hear from them. If I get a fix I will be sure to post it here for everyone else.
walbatross 0 Posted March 3, 2002 I just wanted to bump this message up and also ask that anyone who has had similar problems, i.e. logo appears and crash to desktop and they've tried everything in faq please just message here. Maybe if we get enough replies people will look into a fix or solution to our problem.
rael567 0 Posted March 3, 2002 ive got the same problem too-either invalid page fault or invalid memory access (gold edition) is there something wrong with the cd itself?? we all have different systems but getting the same problems???
walbatross 0 Posted March 4, 2002 I ran PC-Doctor to test my CD-Rom drive. I ran it several times with different games in the drive each time. The test passed everytime except when Operation Flashpoint was in the CD-Rom drive. On those occasions I recieved the following error messages: CD-ROM Test: Linear Read - **FAILED** Failed action: Reading block 938 Drive 1 of 2 (HP, CD-Writer cd16f): SCSI Error 1100H. _EVENT:41_7 Failed action: Reading block 1206 Drive 1 of 2 (HP, CD-Writer cd16f): SCSI Error 1100H. _EVENT:41_7 Failed action: Reading block 1474 Drive 1 of 2 (HP, CD-Writer cd16f): SCSI Error 1100H. _EVENT:41_7 Failed action: Reading block 1742 Drive 1 of 2 (HP, CD-Writer cd16f): SCSI Error 1100H. _EVENT:41_7 Failed action: Reading block 2010 Drive 1 of 2 (HP, CD-Writer cd16f): SCSI Error 1100H. _EVENT:41_7 Failed action: Reading block 2278 Drive 1 of 2 (HP, CD-Writer cd16f): SCSI Error 1100H. _EVENT:41_7 I don't know what this means, yet, but I'm starting to believe it is not my computer that is the problem but the cd. Will let you know what I figure out.
smithpe6 0 Posted March 4, 2002 I am having the same problem. I just bought the gold edition and I get the crash message. I thought I was the only one who was loosing it. Win XP home Pentium 4 1.8ghz Nvidia 32mb GeForce 512 SDRAM Hopefully we can get this fixed
Sparksfly 0 Posted March 4, 2002 This may seem irrelevant but i have trouble installing the patches due to my cd-rom. Using a external cd writer and its fine. My cd-rom doesnt give me any other trouble except for opflash so im figuring you guys have a cdrom issue problem. Try another drive maybe...
walbatross 0 Posted March 4, 2002 Thanks Sparksfly but I only have two drives, CD-RW and DVD/CD, and I've tried them both with no results. Everything seems to point to the CD-ROM Drive but all my other games work fine so I believe even if OPF is not working because of some conflict with my CD-ROM it is OPF that needs to be fixed and not my CD-ROM. After seeing all these other people having the same problem as I, I am thinking about returning the game in 48 hours. I figure I'd give the people at Codemasters time to respond. I've been playing computer games for many years and this is the first time this has ever happened to me with a brand new game. I am very upset and am looking to spend my $40 US on another game. Medal of Honor and Max Payne look good.
smithpe6 0 Posted March 4, 2002 I've tried it in both of my drives too and it doesn't work in either. All of my other games work fine as well. The only thing is, I bought it from Best Buy and I don't think I can return it, I can only exchange it. I also have emails in to Codemasters so we wil see what they say. walbatross, you should try playing Gothic. It rocks!!
walbatross 0 Posted March 4, 2002 Thanks smithpe6, I will check it out. Oh yeah and with Operation Flashpoint I returned it today. I will try to pick up another copy of it when they get it fixed. I'm kind of scarred at the moment. Its too soon.
grzesl 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Looks like I have exactly the same problem. Gold edition crashes with 'Operationflashpoint has caused as error in ~DF394B.TMP.' error message. Gold Upgrade installs but when I try to run it, same story. Patch 1.46 crashes during installation with the same error. I have run the CHECKOFP tool, it says everything's perfect. I have WinMe, Athlon 1.1 GHz, GeForce 3, 256 MB RAM. Any ideas?
Psysoldat 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Read my df43b.tmp good and bad news post. I found out a few things from calling Codemasters tech support.
walbatross 0 Posted March 5, 2002 I am just amazed that Codemasters drop the ball on this one. I mean to distribute a product that doesn't even work then have no clue about it. I usually appreciate faq files and help files but when they tell you to install this or uninstall this to get a game working I begin to worry. Many novice computer users or gamers should not be tampering with their computers drivers and registry. Its ludicris to think that the average person should be qualified to install this driver and change registry and all that to play one game. There was nothing wrong with my computer before I bought the game why should I change my computer's settings now, for just one game. Besides, the idea behind beta testing is to find and fix errors and set minimum sysem requirments. If a computer meets all the requirements the game should play. Right? Nope. Anyways in this case it wouldn't even help. This experience has left a bitter taste in my gaming pallatte. I will continue choosing computer games over console games but this situation makes me understand why so many others stick with console games.
ExLaX 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Walbatross, don't let this get you turned off from flashpoint, because it is trully an excellent game. I played it at a friend's house, and went straight to the store to buy it. Unfortunately, I'm having that ~DF394B.TMP problem, but hopefully that will be fixed soon. FrogmanTM 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Just a note to those of you with these problems. I have had the same difficulty. The "Operationflashpoint has caused as error in ~DF394B.TMP" error is coming up in win98/me while the "Operation Flashpoint has encountered a problem and needs to close" error occurs in winXP and win2k. I have tried on three different computers with three different operating systems. Hope it is resolved soon..
samoll 0 Posted March 5, 2002 I thought I'd I add in my two cents here and help push the wave to motivate Codemasters to pay attention to this problem. I'm running an Duron 600, 384 MB, GeForce 2 MX and I also get the ~.tmp error. What I'd like to know is what is Codemasters going to do to reimburse those of us who purchased the product from stores who have a no refund policy on open software. smithpe6 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Hey everyone. I just wanted to let everyone know that I returned the Gold Edition and got the standard edition instead. It now works like a charm. The game rocks!!! I am just pissed I had to go through all this shit to play it.
ktg9534 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Go to <link removed by Placebo> and get the hacked exe file for the  V1.30.  This will at least satisfy the need to play the game until they get get their act together and release a usable product.  I would never tell anyone to use a hacked file but in this case Codemasters really messed up and should not complain. I tried for nine hours trying to get it work using suggestions from other forums.  This is the only one that seems to work.
wyuenho 0 Posted March 5, 2002 I have the exact same problem, except for the error message. Maybe it's because I am using Chinese Windows XP. From translation, my error message is titled "Application Error". And in the dialogue box, it gives me some memory location digits and it tells me that memory block cannot be "read". The similar message comes out from my Chinese Windows ME. My copy of OFP is the Gold Edition that just came out. After I've installed my OFP standard I've tried to install Gamespy Arcade from the same disk, but somewhere along file copying, it tells me that there's a corrupt file. I've tried 2 copies of the same game from the same store - same results. I can't return it because Bestbuy has that open software policy. I can't patch the game before or after I've installed Red Hammer. Since the exact problems occur under different OS, my guess is that there's a batch of poorly QCed product on the shelves. I hope Codemaster will order a retrieval and refund all of us.
wyuenho 0 Posted March 5, 2002 Nevermind the error message I said above. I am getting it because I have Visual C++ installed. Basically I am getting the same messsage as you guys.
