ANTH 0 Posted April 28, 2008 Has anyone came across this problem if I want to host a dedicated server and connect to it one of them crashes to desktop, so if I host a dedicated server then load up ofp from the same computer go to multilayer it the crashes once I click the multiplayer. This is in vista x64 any one know the reason behind this? It used to work well in xp. Maybe there is a solution or any guru can explain?
JdB 151 Posted April 28, 2008 That is why it's called a dedicated server, because your computer will dedicate itself entirely to hosting the server. You need a different computer to actually play on it yourself, as opposed to where a player hosts a normal server while playing.
ANTH 0 Posted April 28, 2008 I know what it is yes, but im asking is there away around it in vista so I can host and play like in xp you can without having to go through all the crap of giving people ips.
Pulverizer 1 Posted April 29, 2008 <s>Works just fine in XP if you have enough system resources. I don't know why it crashes on Vista but try using the dedicated exe (not -server parameter). Or copy ofp to another dir so they don't use the same files. Could try changing the port too (-port= parameter).</s> Actually, it's probably your firewall asking if opflash should be allowed to act as a server. Try pressing enter or alt+a (for allow button) or run ofp windowed (-window parameter) so you can see what's going on.
