Lucas 0 Posted February 1, 2008 Hi all, Well I've had my first problem with ArmA since buying it just the other week. And the problem is, as you've probably guessed, the fact that my screen keeps flickering randomly when i play with settings on High to Very High (Flickering is almost suppressed at low/normal settings). My brother (Who's computer it is) installed some new drivers the other day and ever since then the computer has been overheating, shutting down and then ArmA started flickering. My Bro then realised that he didn't uninstall the old drivers so he did this yesterday night and said that everything should be ok. Lone and behold today i find that my ArmA still flickers like crap , i can again stop this flickering by lowering the settings, but the computer shouldn't be doing this at all as it has 2 8800 graphics cards (SLI) 2 gig of DDR2 ram and an AMD 64bit Dual core processor. I have noticed that i only have to lower the settings on texture detail to normal to stop the flickering, but this makes everything look rubbish and there is no detail on anything. Now i'm not sure what's wrong but i know that it has to be something in ArmA because everything is fine on all of our other games. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Lucas
toadball 35 Posted February 1, 2008 Have you had similar odd graphics problems outside of ArmA since your computer was over heating? i.e in other games etc. If you do, my personal guess would be there could have been damage done to your graphics card through over heating, I could be wrong as i'm no real techie in these matters. Lucas 0 Posted February 1, 2008 nah, there is no other problem in any other game apart from ArmA, although i was playing just and the flickering does seem to have been minimised with high graphics so it might be okay from now on? Thanks anyway Lucas
Lester 0 Posted February 1, 2008 Maybe i had an hint for you, i get strange effekts a few weeks ago: If you zoom the View via RMB, and release it, got the view not gone back to normal values up to such a effect ? This get brighter and brighter and brigter up to this: http://a.kiel.us/Bright1.jpg http://a.kiel.us/Bright2.jpg I had such a problem a view weeks ago an my 8800GTX and ArmA ! when i take NVG on it was a bright view, but don't get darker. (but i can see a very fast normal/bright flickering) After i take control over another unit (teamswitch in SP) or a complete camera change (norrins respawn) the view get back to normal values and it begin to get brighter if i use the RMB zoom. Maybe the pixel shader in ArmA only set on a normal value it the camera changes ?! I switched the Hardware to another card of the same type of another vendor ... nothing changes ... reinstall directx ... nothing changes ... get the latest WHQ driver ... nothing changes ... get the newest beta driver ... nothing changes ... Install an "old" driver V163.75 ... nothing changes ... then install the latest WHQ driver again ... and the problem is gone !
