Benthenoob 0 Posted January 19, 2008 Im asking in here because im sure some of you will be able to answer my question as alot of you know what your doing with computers. Im currently looking for a peice of software which can take an audio track and seperate the music from the lyrics. Is there a peice of software that does this ? Whats it called if so ? And is it free ? (im cheap alright) All help is most welcome. Cheers
Balschoiw 0 Posted January 19, 2008 There are programs that have some kind of "karaoke" feature to separate music from lyrics, but the results are not really satisfying. As the voice usually is "stored" in the centre channel for stereo recordings there is a method to get rid of the voice by inverting the right channel of a track and add it to the left channel. This way all centre voice will be deleted. The result depends on the initial musicfile. Chorus for example is mostly recorded in full stereo, so this will not be removed but only the centre lead voice. You can try your luck with Blaze Audio Vocal Reducer or RipEditBurn that also has a voice removal feature. Most of the time you will end up manually editing the samples and adjusting the equalizer to edit out the voice. Results depend on source file. Another comfortable method is to get your hands on a 5.1 DVD audio recording. Mostly the centre channel contains only the voice/sing track and by muting it or cleaning the centre channel you almost instantly get rid of the lead vocals. POPKA 0 Posted January 20, 2008 Adobe Auditon is the best option for audio editing though it is not free you can get a 30 day free trial for it at the adobe site. Audacity is free and simple to use and may be more to what you are looking for, though it only allows audio editing at a somewhat basic level by comparison to Audition. Shashman 0 Posted January 30, 2008 You could try Pro Tools. Good piece of software and pretty easy to use.

ade_mcc 0 Posted January 30, 2008 I accept no responsibility if you knacker your speakers ======================================== To quickly check your original stereo recording to see how good it is to remove the lyrics (using Balschoiws method above), use a hifi that uses four sockets for output (Left - Gnd, Right - Gnd), remove both loudspeakers from the back of your stereo and insert one loudspeaker that plugs into Left and Right leaving both Gnd sockets empty. As the loudspeaker is outputting the level difference between the two channels, everything that is equal in both channels will cancel out, whilst everything else will remain. The effect is poor to mediocre depending on the original recording and is as a result of the process, in mono. A better result would be to search for instrumental or a cappella versions of the track. Akira 0 Posted January 31, 2008 I was interested in this as well back in the day when I wanted to try my hand at remixing (I have the Sony Suite). I soon learned that if you don't have the master tapes, there is no real satisfactory way to seperate lyrics from music. If its Karaoke that you want, I would just rent a machine or use some of the available video games that seem to do it as well.
