Stag 0 Posted December 16, 2007 By reading the posts in troubleshooting, My installation of ArmA now runs very smoothly, which is good. However, it doesn't address the original problem I came to Troubleshooting for;after about 10 minutes ingame, time varying dependent on environment (open, desert, forest, urban) my framerate changes from frames per second to seconds per frame. To all intents and purposes the game locks up, but in fact it is only running incredibly slowly. I know that this is the case rather than it just freezing because I left one session open in a "frozen" state for about 15 mins after hitting the esc key. When I came back the ingame menu was up. Tried disabling the swapfile, and for the first time got the error message that the system was running out of available memory. I've tried a number of apps which claim to free up memory, but none appear to make any difference. ArmA is the only game where this happens, All others work fine. Help? Chris Death 0 Posted December 16, 2007 You seem to have posted everything about your problem that others could tell you too. Nothing else will follow until ppl will know about your sys-specs /driver versions / ArmA version / etc. ~S~ CD
Stag 0 Posted December 16, 2007 Good point. AMD4200 dual core (Yes, optimiser installed) 2 gig DDR4200 RAM ASUS A8N-SLI Premium motherboard 2x NVIDIA 6800 Ultra, 256meg video RAM each, drivers 163.71, rolled back due to problems with other apps, made no difference to the problem with ArmA Creative Soundblaster X-Fi Soundcard 500 gig HD, 3048 pagefile enabled (Put it back in since having no pagefile did not solve problem) ArmA Patched up to 1.08 hotfix, QG currently not installed, but had same problem with. BraTTy 0 Posted December 18, 2007 Few things If I raise my AGP aperature to an enormous figure, my game gets slower as time passes but your obviously pci-e Possible that your cpu is getting hot and automatically lowering cpu speed? Same with your video cards? Getting hot and sluggish? Tried the maxmen parameter for Arma? I also suspect your soundcard.
Balschoiw 0 Posted December 18, 2007 Quote[/b] ]If I raise my AGP aperature to an enormous figure Just out of curiosity as I have a 256 MB 7600 GT A AGP card here. What setting did you use in Bios ? I set mine to 256 MB aperture size to have access to higher settings in Arma. I´d also like to know in that context what AGP features in BIOS should be disabled/enabled, for example AGP fastwrites, AGP performance control, etc. Don´t mean to hijack the thread, but this bugs me for a while now as I don´t know what the optimum settings for an AGP card and Arma are in BIOS. Most users here have already PCI or SLI, so there isn´t that much info on tuning AGP card specifically in BIOS. Do you have any input there ?
croc4 0 Posted December 18, 2007 I would like any AGP info as well, I do not have the funds to buy a new computer just for this game, all my other games run very smooth., so upgrading at the moment makes very little sense

Same with your video cards? Getting hot and sluggish? Tried the maxmen parameter for Arma? I also suspect your soundcard. Tried maxmem with various values, no difference. I don't think the CPU/GPUs are overheating; fan speed has been manually cranked up to 90% from the default 50% I don't think it is the soundcard, but since I've tried everything else, its no big deal to try running sound with hardware and EAX disabled; I'll give it a shot. Nope. Same problem.

I´d also like to know in that context what AGP features in BIOS should be disabled/enabled, for example AGP fastwrites, AGP performance control, etc. I only have a 7600gs and it already has 512mb of ram. My PC ram is slower and I only have a Gig or ddr400.I only use 64 or 128mb settings for the aperature for reasons that my pc ram is slower and I don't have alot.I have noticed drop in performance setting my aperature too high.If you have alot of extra and super-fast pc ram maybe you would get opposite results.I also know that many d3d programs have a problem of releasing the ram back so thats probably where the performance decrease is coming from. You want fast writes on and such anything your system will handle. I don't have a performance control but some AGP power settings and I leave it at normal (don't want to waste too much power) If I were having problems I may set that to high If you were running alot of smaller games, I think having a large agp aperature would help because it may load the whole graphics between video card and pc ram.But these demanding games have other stuff it needs to load for performance issues and using all your memory for graphics doesn't seem to help (large maps, files and such)
