Texture bug on low terrain detail

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know why I keep getting the following bug with my Island textures:

graphicalbug2fm8.jpg

It only happens with Terrain Detail on Very Low and corrects itself when I get within 500m. (guessing it's to do with how detailed the terrain is)

The Terrain Grid Size is 2048 x 2048, Sat and Mask LCOs are 4096 x 4096 and Texture Size is 50.0x50.0m. If that helps.

Wouldn't say it's a major show stopper as it can be solved by raising the Terrain detail, but it's still be nice to know why it does it. smile_o.gif

The sat and mask should be at 102400 x102400. 2048x50m.

There is no reason that the masks have to be at 1m resolution.

On-topic: Are those colours the ones used on your layer mask? Do you use an ATI video card?

Oh? I thought it had to be that way, but I've been out of the loop for a while so my knowledge is very rusty, if you can call it knowledge.

I don't have any of the Blues, Pinks, White and Purples from the first picture anywhere, but there are black and red in the Layers.

I do have a Radeon X1800 Card however, I just thought it may be to do with the Map as so far it only ever happens on this specific map.

Some aspects looks a bit like the grass layer bug that afflicts all ATI cards (i'd post a link bug the BTS is gone), but the pastel colours are those you get with an unhappy graphics card/driver.

Looking at your screenshot makes me wonder about your satellite/layer mask. The MCO's (or detail textures?) must be providing all that ground detail, because your masks have 25m pixels. That would mean the boundary between grass and sand should be a straight line, but it looks like it's been dithered... The second screenshot also shows no visible change between detail texture and satellite. I managed to accidentally create an island that didn't use the satellite mask at all, rendering the detail texture to the horizon, but it had terrible performance. How are your FPS?
