Making a sound mod

Recommended Posts

Hey I've looked around and found a topic saying I could use goldwave to convert my .wav weapon sounds into .wss but when I try them out ingame they sound nothing like they do in goldwave. They sound like cap guns going off compared to the original sounds.

Is goldwave not saving them right? Do any of you know of a program that will save them correctly?

Try this and as far as i know your .wav must be 44100khz, 16bit mono

Hey JoshuaC,

Download the BI Editing Tool Suite, here: Editing Suite

Inside there are is a program to edcode to .wss called WAVEtoSSS.

To decode .wss files to .wav usethis program.

I use Sony Sound Forge to do the actual editing of the sounds. The sounds have to be mono, but apart from that its up to you. The smaller the file size, the better, imho, because the game doesn't have to work as hard.

ArmA tends to boost the gain (volume) of weapon sounds, so try to keep the gain out of the red zone of the volume meter.

If you need any help with it, just ask. I had to learn everything from scratch, as there is a lack of tutorials around.
