DieAngel 0 Posted October 22, 2007 Since i heard the real sound of a Vulcan type weapon, i was wondering why the sound in arma was so .. disappointing, so i have been trying myself to make a small sound sample to replace it, using sound from various videos. I came to the conclusion that the fact the sound is so short prevent to make this characteristic "weed cutter on boost" sound that makes these weapons. I was wondering if there was another possible way to make the sound better. Would it be possible to use a longer sound (that would encompass about 1 to 2 seconds of firing and stopping it as soon as the gun stop firing? instead of repeating a very short sample. Q1184 0 Posted October 22, 2007 If you look into configs, default Arma uses M197 sound for Vulcan, this is probably why you don't like it Try various soundmods. Modwarsound and FDF_sounds have very nice M61 sounds. If neither suits you make your own addon. If you make a long sound it won't stop playing after you release the button btw (the workaround being to make M61 fire in fixed bursts so that the burst duration would be equal to the length of your sample. Look at Shilka with its fixed bursts as an example.)
DieAngel 0 Posted October 22, 2007 oh yeah fixed burst could work , tho fixed bursts of 1 - 2 seconds does feel long for a vulcan canon. As for the sound i do believe it doesn't sound that good because the sample is so small it hasn't enough length to have any "taste" i tried to cut and slice a new sound and i arrived to something that is pretty much the same. The actually sound has 7 shots in it that's already a lot , i dunno how longer i can make a burst while keeping it acceptable gameplay wise. Thing is when you hear a vulcan in real life, the shots are fired so fast that you can't hear the pause between the shots, (a friend of me says it sounds like a loud fart) . that's the sort of sound i tried to sample. :/
Q1184 0 Posted October 22, 2007 Oh i believe that exact sound is used for GAU-8 in ModWarSound  Anyway here is how the cannon sounds with this soundmod: http://files.filefront.com/M168avi/;8862999;/fileinfo.html
subs17 9 Posted October 23, 2007 There are real life M61 sound files on the internet or you could get zzzspaces sound pack for lockon and try using his sample for the gun. The minigun for the UH60 could also use the same file.
NonWonderDog 0 Posted October 31, 2007 I can't find any way to set spool-up or spool-down sounds for loops, and it always finishes playing the current loop when you let go of the button. It works well enough if you use a short sound sample with little variation, but short samples with little variation usually sound pretty bad. I had a bit of success looping a couple of Chammy's unused sounds for the Gatling cannons, though. And I hate fixed bursts. As far as I'm concerned, that's not a solution.
