Ex-RoNiN 0 Posted February 23, 2002 I'm running a "Dell D1028L" (17")on a GeForce 2 MX-400 @ 1024*768 with 32 bit colours. Refresh rate is currently 60 Hz, but it isnt too good, as I have to work hours with it. What refresh rates can I set it to without worrying too much about the monitor blowing up but also being kinder to my eyes? Also, do those filter thingys help at all? How good are they for games? Snake1999 0 Posted February 23, 2002 Well,, your monitor decides how high refresh rate you can have on our monitor. If you're running win XP, there's somekind of bug in it that sets the refresh rate on the monitor to 60hz. Really hurts your eyes. I guess your monitor is kinda new, so it should be capable of a higher refresh rate than 60 in 1024 x 768. I had to get a special program to force my monitor to display things in a higher rr than 60. BUT!!! The lower the rr is, the longer your monitor will last.

Damage Inc 0 Posted February 23, 2002 Well it sure must hurt your eyes if you have your monitor at 60 hz. Try setting it to about 85 hz.
Albert Schweitzer 10 Posted February 23, 2002 I had the same problem. I got a 21cm screen pretty new and it is capable of doing it around 85Hz at 1600-1200 but my eyes hurt terribly, I couldnt do anything against it. Then I found out that stupid Windows seems to enforce a rate of about 60Hz to 70Hz. The best solution is a " f u c k you Windows" programm which allows you to do things that stupid Windows doesnt. The best and most popular (easy to use) is Power-Strip. You can download it for free and easily tune everything concerning graphics. No risk with that programm (and it is fast to download)!! Take it and your problems will be solved. Trust me!
Damage Inc 0 Posted February 23, 2002 Hmm I can just change it from the display properties
Pukko 0 Posted February 23, 2002 Hey guys, you are saved - here comes the Refresh Rate Man! I take this with refreshrates very seriously, probably because i feel all dizzy after a few minutes at 60 Hz. I can spot a refresh rate lower than 85 Hz from 100 meters - and just have to help the poor unawares (but eye tired) computer users to increase to at least 85 Hz. Now I run my 22" monitor at 1280*960 and 120 Hz (I really think it feels better with 120 than 100, might just be an illusion though). I do can watch TV and play 'moving' games at less than 85 Hz without suffering much, but when I start a white static window, like this one, I cant be around anymore. If you feel unsure if you monitor flickers - start a white window and look beside your monitor... Now for some help. I am still using Win 2000 and a Nvidia card, and by default the damn OS messes up the refresh rates. Even if I run normal Windows in 120 Hz, games and applications often run at 60 or 75 Hz due to bugs in the OS. The savior can you find at: http://www.planetquake.com/ztn/nvreffix/ And I also found this site after a quick seach on Google (the adress sounds promising anyways): http://xp-refresh.net/ BTW Albert - I really hope you are not really sitting with a "21cm screen", such monitors use to show green on black I think
Hasha 2 Posted February 24, 2002 Most 17 monitors can to do fine @ 85HZ using 1280X1024 and you dun have to worry about blowing up your monitor. Today I just got the NEC 18" LCD which replaced my aging and broken 15" CRT Compaq Moni. It is GORGEOUS, at least I can study and do School work on my computer desk and use my new monitor as a study light! OF looks SHARP and bright on it even at 800X600.
