bigb792001 0 Posted August 21, 2007 I'm trying to figure out why the game doesn't work for me unless I take out 1 of my sticks of memory. If I load the game up with all 4 of the 1 gig sticks of memory in, the main menu is completely corrupted as you can see here http://webpages.charter.net/bigb79/Arma%20with%204%20gigs.jpg I noticed from another post I read there was at least 1 other user that was able to play with 4 gigs installed, not sure what OS they was running on but I wonder if it has anything to do with me running Vista x64 ( I realize it's an unsupported OS). Even after I remove a stick of memory I still have to disable my page file and set all my settings at normal or the game crashes with the memory surface error after about 5 minutes. As it is now it will run for about an hour and a half before crashing. Performance wise the game runs great even at max settings it's just not stable. All other games (around 25-30) that I play/played run good performance and stability. I have the latest drivers and August release of DirectX, have tried several gpu drivers. The sound driver is actually the previous released driver as the currenty driver gives me problems half the time.
johan614 0 Posted August 21, 2007 I have XP64 with 4GB RAM and it works as expected. I would say your problem is either driver-related, vista related or on of your memory sticks is broken. Have you tried running any memcheck programs?
ixnay 1 Posted August 21, 2007 Have you tried: http://thehotfixshare.net/board....le=2840 See here: http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin....t=67011 Don't know if it will fix your issue, but hey... what the heck, right?
bigb792001 0 Posted August 21, 2007 Ya I've ran memory tests, and it doesnt matter wich stick I take out just cant have all of them at once. I've had the hotfix too. Just installed the 163.44 beta drivers tonight and have played all night without a crash, got to crack the graphics up now and see how it really does.. I can't figure out why it won't run with 4 memory sticks in though.
MATRA 0 Posted August 21, 2007 Try the 158.24 nvidia drivers.
themystic 0 Posted August 21, 2007 I have the SAME exact problem and it has been driving me nuts. The 158 drivers work fine but all Nvidia drivers up to present all create that issue for me. I also have 4GB of ram in 32-bit Vista although it is only detected as 3.5GB since I'm on the 32-bit version. Bohemia, PLEASE HELP! No other games have problems for me. I want to have the latest drivers for my DX10 games and still be able to play ArmA.
volkov956 0 Posted August 22, 2007 Vista is not a supported OS for Arma just so you know and yes Vista +4gb with this game can be unstable I have tested it myself on 2 of my machines that have 4gb. If the system is using XP64 or 2K3 64bit they run perfect with 4gb just not vista
SWAT_BigBear 0 Posted August 22, 2007 With 163.44 drivers, my ArmA did the same as bigb792001, I went into memory controls in bios, and disabled "Memory Hole Remapping", and it will load properly. (This would be the 4gig memory issue) and much easier than removing sticks. Sad part= the new drivers will not enable SLI in the Arma Profile of Ntune. It's just not an option anymore, so I can not test SLI. I've yet to decide to go back to 158.24, I want to test the game and video options with 163.44, after work today. bigb792001 0 Posted August 22, 2007 Disabling the "Memory Hole Remapping" in my bios isn't enough for my system, I have to take the memory completely out or it just wont load properly.
Bintje_NL 0 Posted August 22, 2007 Disabling the remapping worked like a charm for me! Finally got to try out the demo and I'm getting the full version ASAP (What? So I got around to it late, I've been away ) Still get the memory error from time to time, but I may have a sollution for that... check out this post: http://bf2142.totalgamingnetwork.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21039 It's written for Supreme Commander, but worked for BF2142, so maybe it will work for ArmA too I'll try it myself as soon as I buy the full game. Hope this helps!

Filling three slows the computer down as RAM should always be paired. My recommendation is to return the RAM to the shop and buy two sticks of 2GB memory instead of 4 sticks of 1GB
Cuzer 0 Posted August 22, 2007 This is EXACTLY the problem I'm having with my machine, Vista 32 bit, Nvidia 8800 and 4gb Ram (4 x 1strips) I've got the identical loading screen to you, seemed to work OK with 3gb in but it's not having four. I've not seen many 2GB Ram strips, is it popular? Do you have any links where I can check prices at all? Be really interested to hear if you manage to get around this problem, I want my machine to run 4GB as I demand a lot of it and I've paid a lot of money for it to be able to run 4GB I don't really want to disable anything if I can help it and hopefully Arm A will work with these new Nvidia Drivers at some point too?? Cheers in advance Cuzer
