Completely Unstable

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am a seasoned ArmA player and had previously experienced no problems and very high stability under the 1.05 patch. However since downloading the 1.08 patch me and several of my friends have experienced a massive amount of crashes, so many that all have stopped playing the game.

I am surprised that this problem is not the main subject of the forums.

So far out of 5 completely different systems, 4 constantly crash. Despite many reinstalls, canging divers multiple times and experimenting at almost all graphical levels, the game is just too unstable.

Has anyone else got this problem, (the evolution maps are especially unstable).

Any more information you wish to share with us? Such as specification, driver numbers, do you use maxmem?

Theres very little anyone can help you with if you dont give us lots of info.

I had constant crashes until I used maxmem=512 as my gfx card has more then 512mb RAM and now I have yet to see one crash.

The specs of our five totally different systems are completely varied. My system is AMD 64 3000Mhz, ATI X1800XTX GFX, 1GbRAM, XP SP2. One friend has an AMD 4200Mhz, 8600GTX, 2GRAM VISTA (business), another P4, XP SP2, NVidia 7600, 1Gb, another P4, 8600GTS, 2Gb, VISTA HOME.

Most of us are on the latest Catalyst and Forceware drivers and have regressed at least 2 versions back with no effect!

We all crash regularly either playing together or independently online but only since the release of 1.08 and most commonly when in vehicles. The usual form is graphical tearing and artifacting then boom.

As I said earlier, I've searched these forums for evidence of a common 1.08 problem but failed to find one so far dispite several casual references to 1.08 instability. The search goes on. banghead.gif

i still use my good old ATI 9800 XT pro ... and don't see any problems with crashing the game ... it never did.

but i wonder how many people have problems with it ... and most of them are running a nvidia card ...

Hi,

I also experienced a lot of crashes in ArmA after 1.08 patch. As you mentioned, 1.05 was solid like a rock. I don't know what they did in patch 1.08 to break the game the way it is, but I was able to find a solution to my CTDs here in the forums. Here is what I did:

1. Updated forceware to 162.50 (Quadro drivers, but works fine on GeForce 6/7/8 - available at guru3d.com);

2. Set maxmem command to 512 (-maxmem=512);

3. Defragmented my partition where ARMA is installed.

4. During the game, on a 30-minute basis, I use the flush command to flush the VRAM. Most CTDs are due to VRAM fully filled with data, so this command "cleans" the VRAM (press and hold left shift, then press minus on keypad, then type flush)

After this, I was able to play for 2 hours without a single crash. I have AMD X2 4200+, 2 Gigs RAM, GeForce 7950 GT 512MB and Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum.

Hope this helps you! Best of luck!
