No sound wtf?

Recommended Posts

It would help to know little details, like your detailed system specs, including motherboard make and model and video and sound card makes and models, what driver versions you have for all of these and how much RAM do you have.

Yes i have the pretty much the same problem. I have a AthlonXP 1700+ 1,47Ghz, a Via Kt266+(???) motherboard...

[4-1 patch appliead, tried changing drivers for the sound controller thingy, does not work]

SOund card intergrated with the mobo. I play some and depending on the day the sound dissapears after something like 5-25mins. Sooner if i create/use custom missions(!wink.gif. It is extremely frustrating. I did not have the problem in v1.00 but after i got gold upgrade i installed it and patched it to 1.42 and installed a shitload of addons... It really suxors.. So it could have been v.1.10, 1.20, 1.30, 1.42 or any of the 150mbs worth of addons i have in mah Addonsfolder..

So, avon, any ideas what i should do?

Can you borrow a normal sound card from anyone and test to see if essentially the lesson to be learned is almsot never to rely on integrated video and sound chips?

Hmm i'll try. I've gotten alot of that: Buy a sound card, the intergrated ones are crap.. etc, etc.. But it has worked fine untill now. So i'll try with another one.

Yeah the PC I use has an integrated sound card also. But It does it also when I make Win media player full screen, plays for a couple of secs, then bam, no more sound.

I am running a Duron 1Ghz, 256 SDRAM, A K7S5A mobo w/ AC97 audio, dont know the driver version. But it works fine on most of my games, well I take that back, it was messing up on The Sims also, just sounded very choppy.

I have the AC97 audio thingy too... are you running Windows XP/2000confused.gif

i am running win2k pro, seems like we are kind narrowing the problem down. And the sound thing happens to me too but in Winamp especially when i edit graphics and stuff and have alot of progs open the sounds freezes in a really weird way and winamp refuses to even play the music. It just freezes... really weird.

And i get the sound back in OFP but i have to restart the game. Usually the sounds only stays for a very short time unless i reboot my comp... Looks like this might be a worthy addition to da big FAQ of luuv(and hate), avon..?

More info: it definatively seems to happen to custom missions alot more wich is really weird... I just played two (really long) red hammer missions (assasination & alomo, kick ass mission BTW really enjoyed them) and the sound was there... Then i start fiddling around with a custom mission and on the second or third prewiev the sounds fuxors up.

I *think* i got my sound to work. In XP or Windows 2000 start Operation flashpoint, then alt-tab out and ctrl-alt-delete, select task manager and under the "processes" tab(the middle tab) find the operation flashpoint one and right click on it, then set its priority to higher than normal or high. Worked for me, but on the other hand our problems seem to be a bit different. Have you tried upgrading the drivers of your AC97? Go to Avons FAQ and find the Important info about VIA chipsets under "troubleshooting". There click the 4-1 patch. On the site that pops up scroll down till you find "other drivers" and there select the AC97 drivers...
