Can't save settings or games

Recommended Posts

I couldn't find any reference to this issue on other threads...

I'm running Vista 32-bit, ArmA 1.08 (Atari-US), 8800GTX. Nothing in the game seems to save... for instance, if I change video options, they are back to defaults the next time I start the game. If I play a mission, and save it at some point, the Load button is always disabled. Playing a Campaign, every time I re-load ArmA it puts me right back to Mission 1.

Any clues?

go to your my documents/ArmA folder and make sure the files there arent 'read-only'. (right mouse button->properties)

Nope, no such luck. I see that various folders have been created, but they are all empty. Do I need to run ArmA in XP compat mode on Vista?

Again, no luck. I run as admin anyways - and even if UAC was getting fired by ArmA, that would prompt a dialog. I get nothing. ArmA says that it is saving, but I have zero files under my Documents\Arma folder.

Between this and the choppy, sluggish perf I'm getting, I fear that ArmA is rapidly heading for the un-install pile...

It is unplayable.

Is your My Documents out on the network, instead of the local machine? The demo (the US demo, 1.06) is doing this exact same thing for me (and the original demo did the same thing as well).

The game looked promising when I played it for 10 minutes this morning, but the interface for changing the keyboard settings is so cumbersome I don't want to go through that again to try it out (and the default keys, while industry standard WASD, just don't work for me, since I've always used ESDF instead since Doom/Quake).

I guess I'll download and try at home. I do wish the keyboard settings were easier to change, regardless of this issue I'm having. Bohemia makes great games, but makes horrible keyboard setting interfaces crazy_o.gif (sorry, guys! ) .

Also, as an aside on a different topic, it loads into my second monitor for some bizarre reason; the original demo did this same thing, too.

Bob.

Don't switch off UAC. There is no need to do that. I found when I initially had problems saving settings in ArmA under Vista that the best fix was to run it as an administrator. If you aren't sure how, right-click the shortcut or the actual executable for ArmA, then select Run As Administrator from the menu. You will get a consent prompt, click allow, run the game, change your settings, exit the game, then restart it in normal user mode. Your settings should have been saved.
