acog99 0 Posted June 22, 2007 I am not sure what this mean. After work today I tried to join a few of the regular Evo servers that I like, and was greated with a game notice, a popup if you prefer, telling me to remove ModWarSound, Johnnies Marpat Marines, and my SLA troop textures not to mention McNools desert stuff. It stated these addons were not signed and hence no playing with them until they are signed. What does this mean, aside from the fact they have to be removed prior to playing. (Vanilla is going to suck)
BraTTy 0 Posted June 22, 2007 May not be the answer But that server in specific is using the modified file check and you won't be able to use sound mods and the like that use a modified config (it would allow you to cheat) edit: (don't have to be removed...your not using modfolders?) Messiah 2 Posted June 22, 2007 it doesnt mean anything in particular all addons for ARMA are digitally signed (you'll see in the arma addons folder that all the addons have a corresponding bisign file that basicaly tells the server its genuine and hasn't been tampered with. because none of the current addons have these signatures, it throws up the message. Just press ok and carry on, I assure you that the server should let you play - at least the ones I play on do
acog99 0 Posted June 22, 2007 Modfolders, if I am understanding you right, I have @modwarsound folder, a @JOH_Marines ones and a @McNools ones, plus the SLA also. But as per these addons readme's I had to place pbo's in the addons folder (arma root) for these mods to work via the command line shortcut method. Unless I'm wrong. I could see the "logic" in cheating in a player vs player enviroment, win at all costs, but cheat against the AI?
BraTTy 0 Posted June 22, 2007 See I was wrong ( I haven't even used any addons yet) Requiring placement in the addon folder ? We will see what the future brings if there are problems
Jackal326 1181 Posted June 22, 2007 Usually the "place the addon .PBO files in your addons folder" is the line lazy addon makers put in their readme files. They don't HAVE to be put in the main addons folder, they can (almost always) be used in mod-folders, which I would highly recommend as it helps keep things organised, and if for any reason you need to remove addons from your setup, you don't risk accidentally remove official addon files. Anyway, just deactivate the mod-folders (or move all unofficial addons to mod-folders first) and things should work, though Messiah seemed to suggest just clicking OK will allow you to continue regardless. So unless its preventing you from playing, I wouldn't worry about it. However, if its a nuisance, follow the suggestions made above.
Messiah 2 Posted June 22, 2007 well, by pressing OK you can continue on regardless, unless that is the server in question has something setup to deny people access who have unsigned addons... then it won't
