Zorbtek 0 Posted May 17, 2007 Hello mod makers! Â With the release of Armed Assault finally here, I have a gift that will undoubtedly help you and your mod team manage and organize your projects with ease. Sidus Interactive has had the courtesy to provide Armed Assault mod makers with a licensed web application called Overlord, a Web 2.0 application for managing projects and team members. With advanced task management options, there will never be a question about what each team member's assignments and responsibilities are, or what their progress is; everyone can see exactly what's going on at any time by checking the project overview. Developers can stay focused on creating their game or mod, instead of constantly worrying about who's doing what, when it's going to be done, or what they are supposed to be doing. Communication is a snap with the built-in forum-style message system. Custom message categories for each project mean less clutter and confusion. Messages are stored on the site as long as you want, so you don't have to worry about losing any important information. And they can be tagged, making it easy to find them later. The file manager allows almost all assets to be kept on the site, organized into user-defined folders and tagged with keywords to make finding the right file as easy as possible. Files can also be attached to any item and can be commented on by any user. This is a free service we are providing you with, however we will be setting up a donations button so it can be easy for us to pay off the server and domain name. Features include: Milestones and Timelines Group your tasks into logical Milestones and create a timeline for your project by giving them deadlines and setting up dependencies. Task/Bug Management Overlord uses a simple interface to create, assign, and update tasks and bugs, allowing everyone to stay on track. File Manager with Attachments Each project can have custom folders for uploaded files, and any type of item in a project can have files attached to it. Communication The message system in Overlord works just like a forum, with categories, threads, and replies. All items can also be commented on, allowing quick and easy communication wherever it is needed. Organization With the tagging system and search, you can find anything on the site quickly. Whether you are looking for a particular file, task, message, or milestone, you'll be able to find it. RSS Feeds Overlord automatically maintains RSS feeds for all activity, each project's activity, and each user's assignments. ------- All you have to do is contact me: mark@sidusinteractive.com And provide the following information - 1. Your mod name (ArmAMM.com/YourModName) 2. Provide a valid E-Mail allowing us to contact you 3. Your preferred Username and password to login 4. A link to your mod's homepage (if any) Requirements - Other stuff 1. You must be creating an Armed Assault mod ONLY. Â We do not accept mods for other games. 2. When uploading a file, please don't just leave it there. Â When the file is no longer needed, delete it. Â Please be very conservative of your file upload usage. 3. Do NOT upload any files that do not directly relate to your project. Â This includes any personal photos or files of puppies and kittens, you making love to your wife, etc. Â We will be monitoring file upload usage. 4. You must be SERIOUSLY engaged in creating a mod for Armed Assault. Â We are limited to 20 databases, which means only 20 mod teams will have the privilege of having an account. Â If there is no activity on your page after 2 months the account will be deleted to make room for others. 5. By signing up and being allowed an account, you agree that you are a partner and member of the ArmA Mod Manager group. ----------------------------------------------------------- If you would like to play around with Overlord, feel free to play around with the demo located here: http://www.phpoverlord.com/demo/ Good luck, and happy modding! Here is a guide I put together to help mod makers get around using this more easilly. ---------------------------------------------- If you have sent an application to be and have been approved, we will send you all the information you need. To login, head to armamm.com/YourModName which will bring you to the login page. Â When you login, you'll be taken to the Main page. Everything here is pretty self explanatory. If you want to get your project into the system, click on PROJECTS at the top menu. Here you'll be asked to enter the information about your project. Name: YourModName Info: A description about your mod Tags: Keywords to easily search for your mod Once the project is created, click on it and it will bring you to the project page where most of your managing will be done. Here you can create milestones, tasks, checklists, bug reports, post messages and upload files. Milestones Is basically your entire project broken into smaller chunks. Â So perhaps Milestone 1 would be to get all the basics for your mod finished, Milestone 2 would be to get all the models finished, fully textured and fully operating ingame, Milestone 3 would be finishing all missions for your campaign, etc. To create a milestone, click Create Milestone. Enter whatever you want, and shazam! Â It will show up in the milestones tab. The same works for all the others. The cool thing is you can always check to see how far a task is from completion by clicking on your milestone, and viewing all the tasks for that milestone. These are just the basics really. Â It doesnt take too long to get used to using this. ------------------------------------------ For those of you who do sign up, your links will be www.armamm.com/YourModName
jerryhopper 286 Posted May 17, 2007 i have seen a post about this before somewhere... Can i trial-out to get a impression? *just checked that demo site. this is a nice idea, but your db limit seems to be a nasty bottleneck. how much space can a account use, and how much traffic? Zorbtek 0 Posted May 17, 2007 Hello Jerry, the demo site is not using one of our databases - but while 20 databases surely isnt many, we havent been getting any E-Mails for sign-up - infact only 1 so far. Our servers can withstand 1,200 GB a month (which could be more), but I'm almost certain we won't exceed that limit. Â If we ever do we'll be forced to upgrade. As for hosting, I wouldnt want to to go above 2GB in storage per mod. Â The uploading area is there to host unfinished files -example: A 3D model needs textures. Â Upload the 3D model for the texture artist to DL. It's not hosting files for public consumption - another reason why I'm not too concerned about the monthly transfer volume. Everyone who signs up I expect to keep everything internal, and not upload images of their dog and show it to friends. Â That happens pretty often when you give folks free file uploading when it's intended for something more specific. Your account is all set VXR, be sure to tell the folks here what you think of the tool
