EDIT: Actually.. i think maybe u have a corrupted installation. Try uninstalling Armed Assault, reinstall, then download patch 1.05 and patch it. Then see if the problem persists

tried the patch v1.5 with no joy.

so i uninstalled and re-installed using a desktop install.  i launched with a selective start-up through msconifg  so nothing else can be interfering, then when i goto launch i get this error message.

Data file too short 'addons\buildings.pbo'.

hmm.. that is strange... the error still sounds like a corrupt install...

Maybe your CD is damaged or something? Try one more uninstall, then install then patch and if it fails again i'd try and get a replacement from the shop where you bought it...

Unless anyone else in the community has an idea? :S

cheers i will give it a go, and hope for the best.

i spoke to 505games tech support and they said the same thing sounds like a corrupt disc crazy_o.gif

and now im wishing i didnt buy it from play.com coz im sure they are based in Jersey, not so easy to just pop over!!! so dont i think i will be playing till after the easter break now or when ever a copy arrives.. but i'm determined to get into this game.

guess its a bit of running and gunning in COD2 for a few days

pistols.gif  whistle.gif  should pass some time.

thanks for your info Jack anyway.   thumbs-up.gif

I have also preordered from Play.com (1.04 version)

and install/patching went effortless.

I agree, that the errors you posted point towards corrupt

install/patching process or indeed bad install disk. Can you try on

second/friends PC? Or lend another DVD-drive?

Some suggestions.

Do you use Prime95 or Orthos stress testing to test now

and then the overall stability of your system? If errors,

those should be able to give you an idea about.

OFP and now ArmA as well are very sensible to underlying

system gliches (also caused by overclocking/to sharp RAM-settings)

and are thus able to point out weaknesses, whereas 'other' programs

(especially games) are way more 'forgiving'.

And yes, my PC is overclocked(Opt165 @ 2.8GHz) and I installed

ArmA 1.00 german and then later ArmA 1.04 english + patching all

patches throughout without any errors(yet).

(Prime95 and Orthos stable; no errors during several hours)

Also, installed both versions(testing) on both of my PC;..no errors.

(second = Opt170 @ 2.6GHz [higher = core failure])

With a game like ArmA the whole system is running near the borders of possible in many areas (address space, bus bandwidth, CPU power, GPU power). Any behaviour of the system which even slightly is out of specification can lead to seeming random instability.

The major change we did in this beta patch is we reduced virtual address space usage, which makes the whole system more forgiving to errors other system components may have in this area. While this is a useful workaround and it may be a solution for you now, this still does not mean your system is error free - once it will become stressed in this area again, it may break down again.

We know of other users experiencing problems similar to your caused by insufficient power supplies, malfunctioning motherboard chip-sets, broken hard drive DMA, overheating CPUs or GPUs - and every time it is the same story "my system is stable because it runs game XXX , YYY and ZZZ fine". The problem is because workload of ArmA is somewhat different from other games, the game is sensitive to problems in the system configuration which other games can happily live with.

That is, what I tried to explain in own words. Thanks to Suma for the insight.

well... im back and i wish i wasn't, as i want to be playing this game. but hey.... anyway those nice people at Play replaced my copy of arma.

first off i removed any trace of arma any save files and profiles, used your uninstaller to remove any reg keys.

installed new disc and as the game is loading it gets to the fourth splash screen, crashes to desktop and i got this message.

Warning: perNLOD format in object ca\buildings\molo_drevo_bs.p3d

i have ran my virus scanner and it found nothing.

do you think its time to bring out the XP disc??

or is there any thing else i can try?

any help is much appreciated.

problem solved  yay.gif

it may not work for all, but i backed all data i needed and reinstalled xp, updated all drivers.

reinstalled arma, and bingo  biggrin_o.gif  i must say i was a bit worried about closing the game and launching it again and getting an error when launching but seems to be working fine,

all i can say is there must have been some program on my drive that was causing it to crash.... if

thanks to all for there advice in trying to help me sort this problem out in the first place.  notworthy.gif

hope im not back here too soon  whistle.gif
