Original Grass Put Back With Good Prone Viewing

Recommended Posts

Ive been inspired to spend a little time of my own here and post this topic because of the seeming flood of controversy around the old/new grass. Ya, its just grass, but, its obviously making a large impact on the gameplay in many ways.

A quick feeling from me, then onto the final part here smile_o.gif

When I first booted up my brand new shiny Arma Cd, I was amazed by the enviornment, I even sent a message a to a freind who hadnt yet recieved their copy, saying to him it was like you could touch the grass blades. Ok, then all the issues with the grass came up. Then of course ,the grass got booted, and now, the ground is flat again, like in Ofp. Truly before this change I felt the appearance of the game was similiar to that of Oblivion's world.

I know that topics here are monitored by Bis to a degree, and so maybe this topic will get some views from them.

Here's what I am thinking, and proposing to everyone.

1: original grass is restored, considerably enhancing game immersion, and of course not lagging it any more than it has now with 1.05

2: allow with the original grass, a new perspective for players in prone with 1st person view/scope, that STILL shows grass, but at a very limited level, to where players can EASILY pick out even distant targets in prone. 3rd view in prone still shows grass in regular full amount.

Im not a programmer nor a game designer, maybe having a new grass layer show in 1st person/scope while in prone that allows good viewing, where if a grass blade is in way of view of a distant enemy, u can shift over to get proper view.

3: Whatever you guys feel on actually allowing players to hide in grass from ai, to me it isnt that big a deal as long as I can see them in prone in the grass if they can see me. To me, if this hiding concept in the grass is gonna cause more lag, then I am against it, Arma is CPU intensive enough for me.

I totally feel this would be more than doable, would retain the enhanced look of Arma's world, while still maintaining good viewing in grass during prone mode. For me, having lost the grass is a major step back in the Arma's graphical viewing.

Anyone feel free to post opinions on this topic.

I kinda agree, you can always go third person and shoot with most guns barring snipering.

And for being a sniper it makes you look for a good position, and you can kneel behind a tree and peek out and take a shot as well.

Actually what Im proposing is allowing a more free prone view while in the original grass during 1st person/scope view, which would reduce the amount of grass blocking your view. Even with semi distant to distant targets, supposing a grassblade or two was blocking view of that unit, one could shift over a bit to get them in sights. Of course the original view thru the heavy grass in prone was basically impossible to do anything with.

how about grass that doesn't have your shadow on it, because that lags the fuck out of machines like mine.

it did in oblivion, it does on here.

The grass should be adjustable to theway i you like it to be but not so munch as "cheeting" by lowering the grass so munch just make it a little bit ajustable form the full lushes grass to the grass in 1.05

If they dont fix this then i am going to by making a grass addon!

Shadow detail on low turns off the rendering of shadows upon grass. It will drastically help with your lag issue.
