deevius 0 Posted April 1, 2007 Does anyone know if the texture memory corruptions (LOD switching or whatever it's called) is going to be fixed in patch 1.06? This has to be the single most annoying bug in the game, completely ruins the gaming experience to point where i don't want to play anymore. Sometimes it'll be alright for a little while, everything looks good and im immersed in the game, but then I turn around and see a blurry texture, or a texture that isn't there at all which can sometimes take up a minute just to load in!! I would expect this bug to be fixed in the next patch otherwise i'll probably stop playing and yes I have tried tweaking EVERY setting almost 1000 thousand times, been tweaking my system like a madman - i have tried EVERYTHING to fix the texture corruption but nothing fixes it therefore its obvious it is a bug that needs fixing immediately. I'll show an example of what I mean to those who dont know what im talking about, just gotta take a screenshot speaking of the patch, since the US version is released tomorrow is it likely that 1.06 will be released tomorrow aswell, or will we have to wait for it? I played all night not one bug out. (not an april fools joke) 12 hours play time not one texture cock up.
deevius 0 Posted April 1, 2007 I just edited my post.. dude, yeah.... i've tried EVERYTHING as i said in my edited post. Different AGP apertures, texture on low, texture on normal, texture on high, different resolutions/refresh rates, driver tweaks, ect ect ect.... NOTHING fixes it. edit: I have not tried refresh rate at 30, I don't think my monitor even goes that low. I can't remember seeing as low as 30 in the Refresh rate options... currently its set to 70 but ive tried it at 60 and no change. Do you mean the 'HDRPrecision' setting in the .cfg file? I've tried changing that, but everytime i change it it automatically goes back to 8 when i start the game.

The refresh to 30 also seemed to reduce AI unti lag. Ill try it more today but setting my max FPS to 30 mean't no screen tear no slow down and way less lag in MP. Its the same trick C and C 3 uses and GTA on the PC, both have a FPS limit of 30, in fact GTA was 25 i think.
deevius 0 Posted April 1, 2007 did you change the refresh rate to 30 in the game options? or in desktop/monitor settings? im pretty sure i cant set it that low in the game (maybe because my monitor doesnt support it) but ill have another look and try it. is the HDR 64 thing you're tlking about, the HDPRecision= setting in .cfg? I tried changing it but it automatically sets back to 8 when i start the game. and the other thing is, we shouldn't have to be tweaking our settings all the time to get it to work properly, the game shouldnt be broken in the first place
Maddmatt 1 Posted April 1, 2007 The monitor refresh rate just affects the monitor, it's not going to affect ArmA. Also, if you could set the refresh rate on your monitor to 30Hz(which you shouldn't be able to do) then that would be very bad for your eyes. HDR has nothing to do with it either. The texture problems seem to have been made worse by the 1.05 patch, so it will hopefully be fixed in 1.06.

Either setting refresh 30 or HDR 64 made it better! You have to tweak all games, especially for the first few months. if you want it to run out of the box and no effort required thats called a console game ;}

Refresh rate and HDR have nothing to do with it. There is no point lowering your refresh at all.
deevius 0 Posted April 1, 2007 I didn't mean for this to be in the Troubleshooting thread though really, otherwise I would posted it there there's nothing to troubleshoot - its a bug and needs to be fixed, and I was trying to figure out if its going to be fixed in the next patch. Yeah I just tried forcing to 30 refresh rate in .cfg file, and yes the texture corruption wasn't as bad (but it was still there) but unfortunately the game seemed to be running quite bad, feels choppy...jerky movements and slowish - and when I tried to take the chopper for a flight over the island it began lagging really bad, pauses of 3+ seconds - ie. unplayable so thats not really a solution unfortunately

But last night I played for 12 hours and not one bug on death. So might be worth trying
walker 0 Posted April 1, 2007 Hi all Either you a want a solution or you want to complain. If you wish to complain there is an official complaints thread it is there for the purpose. Unlike other games developers my exprience of BIS is that they are happy for people to complain if they think there is genuinely something wrong. They certainly dont censor or ban them as others have done. Like anyone sensible the moddies recognise that the general section of the board does not need more than one complaints thread or one praise thread for that matter, open new ones of either and you may be given a little grace to establish it is a genuine new subject that is not a complaint or praise. Where the moddies think its not a genuine new general subject and not a complaint/praise but rather a problem, then they place it where a solution may be given or the problem can looked at to recommend it is placed in the bug tracker. That place is troubleshooting. It is called keeping things tidy; it is what a moddie does. I am sure the moddies also recognise that problems such as the one you describe are not complaints but a genuine problem and are best dealt with by two courses of action: 1) Â A bug report in the bug tracker, if it is a bug report it that is the only way it will ever be known about prioritised and fixed. There is even a voting function to raise the profile of bugs there so that the community of users are consulted on bug fixes. 2) Â If it is not a bug or your not sure it is a bug or you suspect it is a setting or configuration there may be many in the community who have experienced the same and can point you in the right direction to solve this. What we all want is a better version of ArmA and improvements to it, troubleshooting and bug tracking are part of the process that achieves this as do complaints but mess just clogs up the system. Either way we are better dealing in solutions. Kind Regard walker
brokekneck 0 Posted April 17, 2007 I added it to bug tracker some time ago. Log into bugtracker and vote for it. The more response's they get the fast they will get to it. http://bugs.armed-assault.net/view.php?id=2315
