Thread Titles... Disgusting.

Recommended Posts

I hate to act like our wonderful mods here.. and I'm sorry but it seems as if this has to be posted outside of the general-off topic area since no one seems to venture further than Scripting Editing to read any sort of forum rules.

Thread titles lately in Scripting and Editing here have become horrendous.

Just 1-2 pages over the last day.. Here's a very quick glance:

Quote[/b] ]

*Script Help

*Seals...

*How to work triggers and objectives

^^ Statement, thread was a question, sounds like a tutorial.

*2Questions please help

*Objectives

*WatchTower

I mean not to make fun of anyone, who may be the author of these threads. Now if you never read what those forums contained, what would you guess they were about? What if you had a question on forcing units to keep their weapons after getting in the water.. The thread "Seals" may contain that information, maybe not.. well now you are obligated to search through the entire thread looking for that information.. If you posted that question in the forum.. you may be bashed for not searching when in fact.. you did. Now I don't know what that thread specifically actually is about, but you get the idea.

When other people do the right thing and search for help on their mission editing skills. They cannot pinpoint the thread they need to reference for help on the issue they are having. People DO have the same questions you do...Eventually someone will ask it again, some more frequent than not. So to avoid having 1000x threads devoted to the same question, we can simply say "Use search" and have a clean and easy reference for new beginners and advanced scripters... And when they do type "Weapon Comes off in water" they will find it without trouble. Since we don't have any sort of 110% English ArmA Editing Comprehensive Bible to refer to every-time we have a question.

Now, I am sorry for posting this mods.. but this is totally one of my hugest pet-peeves since I, still after 5+ years have never grasped programming/scripting after hours of attempts and I always am browsing the forums looking for certain things to script for filming purposes and always seem to find these so called "Broad" thread titles with no descriptive insight prior to accessing their contents.

Now to keep this slightly on-topic: I have a Camera.sqs intro tutorial (Cannot link for some reason) over at OFPEC. Go figure... ME giving a tutorial tounge2.gif

Edit: "Reporting a post to a moderator" should not be the community's go-to to fix every little thing. The problem needs to stop at the source... and that is the thread starter.

Hence why I put it here. Figured this is best place to address this sort of problem. Even people not reading this thread, all they have to see is this thread title... and they are reminded that they need a better one.

I understand you, sometimes, we can disturb others... and sometimes others can disturb us... but...

I think you need to think about the freedom a little bit, and at

the same time, let the moderators decide what they have to do, or not to do.

Meanwhile... take a breath, laugh a lot... etc... just move your eyes to the info that is good for you, not to the bad one you're thinking about.

And... sry if in this moment i'm disturbing you...

No worries.. Just wish we could have some organized place for mission info and a while.

You also need to remember that English may not be their 1st language, so giving a title to a thread that maybe explains what the thread is may be a lot harder for some more than others.

Personally I take my hate off to the foreigners that try to write in English, they do a damn better job at it than I could trying to write in German, Spanish, French etc etc

hell I have a hard enough time as it is just trying to write in English and thats my native language. tounge2.gif
