kgwanchos 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Just wondered if anyone else has this happen with their ati card. If I look down towards the ground the whole scene goes bright after slight delay. When I look back up again it dims after delay. Looking into the sun is also way overdone on brightness. Is this, as I suspect, a driver issue or game issue. cheers
fasad 1 Posted March 27, 2007 That is the HDR effect. It is meant to simulate the way your eye reacts to different light levels = game feature.
kgwanchos 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Oh ok so everybody sees that...... is there any ways to turn this off, its really distracting and not realistic, I would go see a doctor if my eyes started doing that !!
walker 0 Posted March 27, 2007 Hi kgwanchos HDR cannot be turned off it is fundamental to the engine. Try altering your Gamma and brightness. Kind Regards walker
max power 21 Posted March 27, 2007 Your eyes sort of do do that but you don't notice it, just like you don't really notice the world going sideways when you tilt your head a few degrees (well, I don't). It's all features of the glorious biomechanical machine that I feed cheesies and beer way too often.
NeMeSiS 11 Posted March 27, 2007 Your eyes sort of do do that but you don't notice it, just like you don't really notice the world going sideways when you tilt your head a few degrees (well, I don't). IRL its noticable at night though, look in a bright lamp at nigth and then turn off all the lights, at first you wont see anything but after a few minutes you will be able to see different shades. In ArmA its a bit overdone IMO. (Although it seems better in 1.05, but may have been related to me messing with the 8/16/32bit thingy)
dwringer 45 Posted March 27, 2007 I thought the HDR in ArmA was subdued and tasteful, just as I thought the same for Oblivion, but apparently many are more sensitive to these things (I guess?)... However... If the brightness/fading appears too jerky/unnatural/etc, it might be the onboard color correction in your monitor, if you have such a monitor. My LG 19" LCD display has a feature called "f-engine" which dynamically adjusts color balance, brightness, contrast, and gamma based on the image currently on the screen. When I play non-HDR games, it's great and helps me see, but it's VERY distracting when combined with HDR. Sometimes it goes crazy and even flickers light/dark/light/dark until I look in a different direction in-game. So just make sure that's not the issue; if you really are referring to the HDR effect then never mind...
