Chopper Effects

I was wondering if it is possible to make a mod were choppers can stir up dirt, or water when landing.?

I would like the choppers to bloody land propely and stay still for once,, when the are dropping off troops the chopper slides sideways!!!!!!

ps. a script may be able to simulate the dirt effect,,,,,

especially when it falls so far away it falls over a cliff and flys away!!

ps.. it never happened in version 1.10

The physics engine needs some serious work. In one mission where you have to land near water my chopper slided in the water lol!!! And one other time it turned upside down tounge.gif

Also M113 was flying over clifs and stuff it was very fun though smile.gif In addition some tanks move when you shoot them with rifles or throw grenades at them. Normally a grenade would do shit to a T-80 and M1A1 tank.

Landing effects would be very cool though. I want em smile.gif

Yes, improvements to the helicopter flight model and physics are always welcome.

There is some good news though. In another thread they said the next patch will fix the throttle sensitivity problems (which only matters to people who fly the helo with a throttle)and they will reverse the throttle axis for planes (currently the throttle direction only works correctly for helicopters).

Woo-hoo. Here's hoping for other flight model & physics improvements though. Side-slip in the helos could use some improvement.

i'd settle for a uh-60 with all the doors off. Put an alpha channel color over the door part of the skin so it seems transparent, hence gone.mh60rf.jpg

Cool idea. I like the dust and water effects idea too. Maybe an advanced graphic option for those with new video cards that can crunch water effects? Circular water rings, with a little mist flying up, would be really cool. And a little dust from the ground.

Another thing I would love to see is coning of the helo blades. When the blades are not turning, they should bend down a little. When they are turning, the blades should bend up or down, or be in the center, based on a variety of factors.

In other helo sims, the blade coning effect visually makes more of a difference than you might think. wow.gif It really adds a nice touch to the look of the blades, and game screenshots.

I like the way that when the chopper does fly away when dropping people off, the people still get out....... when 50 "units" in the air......... with no parachute and they fall to their deaths. funny........ annoying but funny

I dont like the way the AI go up realy high before droping units off especialy if you wanna make a covert mission.

Also looking at films of helos flying the helos front is far too down when flying at speed

i would love it if the people at ofp would let people that dont have joysticks fly as high as the people that do , there is no limit to how high my friend can fly so its kinda unfair .

I want a flare launcher for the helis. Shame the OF engine can't support 2 weapons firing from the same vehicle as two machine guns for strafing would be really cool.

The FLARE idea is an awesome one! I'd LOVE to shoot a flare to mark a position (friendly or enemy) for my buddies in multiplayer.

As for this problem:

BIS has said this will be fixed in the next patch.

i think the choppers need the water and dirt effect like you said but also have ropes for people to climb on and if a blackhack is going down it has to do that spinning thing like mayday! mayday! then bam!!!!!!!

Yes. I heard that people have supposedly done some fast-rope scripts somehow (not sure if it's true, but I heard that anyway), but you can't actually see the ropes.

And I know I've seen pictures of helo's using ropes to carry vehicles, but again, the ropes are invisible. So visible ropes would be great. Especially if they swayed semi-realistically.

As for the spinning - yep, people have done that too. They've simulated a tail rotor failure that will cause the chopper to spin while crashing.

Maybe the OFP editing center has that tail rotor failure script:

Kinda easy I think,just define a new Ammo type in a cpp file and define a new weapon like "Flare launcher".Then make a new Helicopter class.Let it inheritate all attributes from the "normal" helicopter (Kiowa would fit bst for this purpose It think) but reconfigure the weapons.Dont know what ya want but I would remove the FFARs and rearm it with the Flares...
