Bit of advice please, graphics and aiming issue

Recommended Posts

All

Just purchased and installed AA, with the 1.05 version. I was a massive fan of OF and completed the original single player campaign and enhoyed the storyline immensly

So, why can't I even complete the snipe the convoy from the top of the water tower opening sub mission? lol

Should you wait until the soilders get up close? I find I'm wasting my bullets and not killing, just surrounding most the enemy before they pick me off!

Would also like to ask on performance. I'm tempted to get a new PC to play AA as I'm aware mine is on it's last legs but the graphics and frame rate is pretty poor, when I set to default I get an 800 screen resolution and very low settings, my machine is a Intel Pentium 2.4, 1280MB Ram and Radeon 9550 AGP 128mb Graphics card. Is this the spec of a "very low" settings? If so maybe I do need a new PC, I was wondering whether my wayward shot on this mission was down to my lack of skills, poor tactics of shooting too early, a dodgy mouse control option or my graphics are that bad I'm not getting the full opportunity

Any advice would be appreciated as I want to play this game, but a new PC is an expense I may or may not need?

Cheers

you mean you can't shoot straight or something?

if it's the case you should not use a pirated version

else, well Arma need a pretty sturdy configuration to run well

Well, you're probably right I can't shoot straight!

No verision is 100% genuine, don't do copies

I guess my question would be, what system do I need then? You've seen my spec above, where should I, or what can I improve? I've just looked on the dell site but the best I can get is 2.8GHZ in terms of a processor and 256MB or ram on the graphics card so I don't seem too far away. Advice apreciated

Cheers

Hi all

I have a lower spec laptop than you. Scratch that my graphic card is a 128mb Radeon Mobility 9700 so less memory but higher spec.

I was able to shoot the drivers in both trucks I managed to kill most near the road but did have half of one squad move toward my position. On the first try I took too long and a squad got in to the 200m ranges and I received fire and was flanked and killed I am bit of a slow old duffer. Remember to lay down on the water tower it is worth 150m in accuracy and 5 seconds in speed.

Bullet drop is more accurately modeled in ArmA so you have practice in the editor to get an idea of the ranges. You can even set up some targets on the spot the trucks halt and got to the water tower to get good. Remember SPR has a zoom. Use it to get the correct zeroing. Mark some landmarks in your mind for the zoom shifts and ranges or like me get used to the graduations at 500m 300m and 200m when zoomed.

Remember to use the breath control (default right MB hold) to hold your target steady at shot for about 20 seconds. Of course you should be able to take the shot in maximum of 10 seconds at 500m ideally 5 seconds if you are good, I can regularly do it in under 5 seconds at 500m. I have seen some of the really good MP players making shots in under 3 seconds at 500m. crazy_o.gif

Those guys: practice, practice, practice. That is what gets you good in ArmA so they judge ranges in a second without even grads and variable zoom zeroing. Learn your weapons!

This post should really be in Official Missions I will ask a moddie to move it.

Kind Regards walker

I think the gun you are using is scoped to 300m i.e. at a 300m range you will hit what you're looking straight at.

Someone somewhere has done a fantastic diagram showing the effects of having to over or undercompensate.

Basically, if you target is under 300m you have to aim BELOW them slightly and if over 300m then aim HIGHER.

Good luck.
