Stupid aircraft and armor.

Recommended Posts

First off, I love this game!! I loved OFP and this game is far better! I am never going back. With that said....

Before I pull out the rest of my hair out (not much left anyway), can someone please tell me how I can get the AH-6 and Mi-17 to fire at something on its own. I create a mission using either helicopter and the stupid thing just flies over the enemy BMP, car, soldier or tank and does not fire a single rocket at it.

I know the airplanes in the game don't attack anything either, but you would think at least the helicopters would (AH-1 and KA-50 excluded).

Also, ever notice that in order for the AI controlled Stryker M2 or ATGM versions to fire at a target the player must be looking thru the gun sight of the weapon if he is not the Strykers will not fire at any targets.

Any advice would be appreciated so i can get this mission I am working on finished. BTW, I have version 1.05 installed.

:D

Will have to wait for the patch to cure those after they patch the most important things like menu colour and and the sounds of seguls.

I don't know where you picked that up. They work just fine, choppers and atleast Camel (dropping grenades). I don't know about jets, i don't put them to my missions usually.

Try to use different combatmodes and waypoint types and speed modes (do they have enough time to target) etc... Maybe you use too low skilllevels? Atleast 0.5 should be enough to make them attack vehicles by my experience, atleast if vehicles are running their engines.

Perhaps the unit doesn't recognize the enemies...

If I remember correctly, there was something like a reveal command in OFP.

UNIT1 reveal UNIT2 ... Perhaps it still works in ArmA smile_o.gif

'Reveal'-command does work. D30 firing infantry from 1 km... Field of mayhem smile_o.gif (me likes much)

1. An AI helicopter pilot crashed when I was gunner.

2. Controlling helicopters hard in ArmA. What was wrong with the way they were controlled in OFP?!?!?!?

3. I tell a helicopter pilot to "move to" somewhere on the map and he flies straight over it and continues going.

4. Right clicking does not lock onto targets when im a helicopter gunner.

5. Telling the helicopter gunner to engage at will does nothing.

He's right. Stick an M1A1 on the runway in the North West of Sahrani. Get an Mi17 to overfly, use any speed you like, open fire, fire-at-will, give him a move waypoint or seek and destroy, promote him up to a colonel if you like, whatever, and he just doesn't fire. The M1A1 fires at the chopper but not vice versa. I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation for this but i've just set up something similar in OFP and it works fine...

As for this 'reveal' stuff...i'm hoping we don't have to resort to scripting to make a helicopter see a great big tank standing on a runway in perfect weather? smile_o.gif Anyone got a foolproof plan for us fools?  yay.gif

Did you try to make the tank move? Give him a waypoint. I'm sorry that I'm always refering OFP, but I don't own ArmA and so I can only talk about things I saw in OFP.

In general, if you placed a tank on the ground without a waypoint, the radar in choppers or planes just showed a white square, similar to an empty tank. You had to target it manually.

I guess this bug survived even in ArmA.

it's just funny that the KA50 works and the Mi17 doesn't. Maybe the Mi is designated as transport, not attack?

How does the reveal command work??

I am sure they will fix it before the US release.

From Biki:

Quote[/b] ] Reveals a unit to a group or another unit.

The knowledge value will be set to the highest level any unit of the revealing side has about the revealed unit. If the revealing side has no knowledge about the revealed unit, the value will be set to 1.

That means that a unit that has not spotted an enemy unit so far can be "told" about the unit even if it´s 10 km´s away.

reveal Biki-link

I use this quite often for cutscenes if I want to make sure that an unit is engaging a target right. In combination with doTarget and doFire you have almost a guarantee the unt engages the right unit on the spot. (example: AA unit taking down a fast incoming helo on the approach and not when it´s already flown over the AA unit)
