weird problem

i have winxp a geforce 3 and a pentium 3 800Mhz and in the desert island with NOTHING but at least 4 groups of soldiers its pausy! thats just an example. singleplayer in the levels with all the trees and stuff its really hard to play. i also had the performance problem with win98 so its not because i upgraded to xp. I dont understand why it is so pausy PLEASE HELP. and i run the game at 1024x768x16 any tips or anything that would improve performance would be great! thanks

oh yea and its only ofp that has bad performance all my other games run nice and smooth like max payne, giants, halflife and a couple others

I don't know, but try to autodetect the settings before you start the game. Maybe that will fix it.

i just tried and it made it worse. and i also have 128mb of ram i forgot to mention that

Get another 128MB. In the meantime, make sure nothing else but Explorer and Systray (and any memory manager, if you're running one) are running when you play OFP.

Moving up to 256MB will make a major difference.

There are other things. Search The FAQ for words like "lag" "stutter" and "performance".

nope i couldnt find anything that fixed it. and i was curious to see my fps but FRAPS completey screwed it up while it was running, so anyone else have anything that might help?

If you run ofp and XP you need at least 256 mb.

xp alone, almost takes up your 128 mb.

Bring up the Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) and click on the Performance tab, there you can see how much of your physical memory is in use. Most of your 128MB of RAM is gone before you even load OFP -- once the game loads, the system will be forced to constantly swap information to and from your hard disk.

If you had thrashing issues under Windows 98, don't expect the problem to get any better with XP, its system requirements are higher than those for 98.
