Formation "bug"

Recommended Posts

I've tried a search and i was one click away from reporting this bug on the BIKI but i thought i'd better ask here first.

When you have a group commanded by AI and it's in "safe" the only formation it adopts is the column. I've tested this out this evening and it happens all the time. Can anyone else confirm this as i find it hard to believe it hasn't aready been spotted.

I first spotted this "bug" when i set up an ambush and the opfor patrol came over the hill in column formation, but i had set it to wedge.

That is normal behaviour and the same as in OFP.

I never knew that and i've spent countless hours in the editor.

I'm pretty sure i could get staggered column in safe mode for Flashpoint.

Maybe it's time it was changed, although it's a bit too late now i suppose.

I'm having the same problem, I'm fairly sure I could get them into a staggered column in OFP. Is there any work-around to get the ai to be in safe mode and a formation other than column? I'd like to have the ai in a wedge because they are patroling a large area, but the area is so large that seeing them walk slowly with their rifles to their cheeks is a bit unrealistic.

Well, normally, militarily speaking, weapons shouldered you march rank-and-file -- for something as small as a squad, you'd normally march single file. Our entire platoon would march three file, however many ranks were needed.

The fact is, if they're patrolling, their weapons should be at the ready. You do not patrol in "safe" mode since the purpose of a patrol is not to be "safe" but "aware".

In OFP, the AI would have their weapons on their backs while in safe mode. If they suddenly switched to aware, they would have to go through the animation to bring their weapon out, which took vital time where they could be shot at. So setting the AI on safe was pointless. Though in OFP, the "aware" state was much better because the AI would run around with their weapons in hand, but not like they are aiming at something and not like they are in direct danger, such as how they act in Armed Assault's state of "aware". The AI is patrolling a long distance, not searching the bushes for something to kill.

The animations in ArmA allow the AI to walk in a more realistic mode with their weapon in hand, so they could easily go into a combat mode. In my mission, The AI are walking on an endless cycle, so the patrol is infinite and by the end of the mission, they could potentially have walked a few miles. I don't want them to have their weapons on their cheeks the whole time.
